Overview
I have been piping since 1964. Having played in seven pipe bands, I have also competed in solo and band competitions. I currently serve as pipe major of the Regimental Pipes & Drums, a living-history group. I can perform in Scottish and Irish attire, or simple Daywear in jacket, tie and kilt. My full repertoire contains many familiar tunes. I always send a client a copy of my Piping Repertoire, and I enjoy working with clients on the selection of music. I am very flexible and try to accommodate the desires of the client. For enclosed indoor events, I play the Smallpipes. I have played at the Pennsylvania State Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, and the U.S. Army War College.

Bree engaged me to play at a Holiday Office Party at a software engineering company on Front Street adjoining the Susquehanna River. Over 200 employees attended the event. I played for two hours, both on the Great Highland Bagpipe and the Smallpipes.
Gus is very personable and flexible. Gus made my daughter’s wedding ceremony special. He was will to do whatever songs we asked for. He even played “Danny Boy” on request of my husband. The guests loved his pipping. I highly recommend Gus for a wedding ceremony.

Joyce engaged me to play at her daughter's wedding at the Folino Estate and Winery in Kutztown. This was an Irish-themed wedding at a premier venue. I played for both the Prelude, Processional and Recessional.

Charlene engaged me to play at the wedding of John and Kate at the Sparrow Point Country Club on the Chesapeake Bay in Dundalk, MD. I wore the full dress of a piper in the Black Watch. This was a Lord of the Rings-themed wedding. A guest even appeared dressed as Gandalf. The unusual part of the wedding was a hawk that was trained to fly down the aisle and deliver the wedding rings. I was instructed to station myself under the building overhang; lest the hawk attack my feather bonnet!
Music was perfect for my father’s funeral! Exactly what he always wanted and exceeded our expectations. Gus was so easy to work with and I would highly recommend him.

Jolene engaged me to play at her father's funeral at the Mount Gilead Methodist Cemetery in Shermsnsdale. Like myself, he was a US Army veteran. This was a very rural location, attended by a large group of family and friends.
Gus played the bag pipe for my brother's funeral at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. He was there on time, very professional, great piper, and very familiar with the way funerals are held at National Cemeteries. I would highly recommend Gus for any occasion.

It was an honor to play at the interment ceremony for David's brother, a USAF veteran at the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. An Air Force Honor Guard folded the flag after I played a number of appropriate tunes including the Air Force Hymn.
Guy played Amazing Grace as he slowly walked towards the gravesite… had everyone in tears. Then he slowly walked away on his last number. It was perfect. He was extremely easy to work with. Highly recommend!!!!!!

Lisa engaged me to play at the interment of the ashes of her parents at the MT Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD. It was an extremely hot day, and the thunder and lightning heralded an impending thunderstorm. I played Amazing Grace, When Irish Eyes are Smiling and Abide with Me during the abbreviated service. It was very easy to work with Lisa who knew exactly what she wanted.

Franny engaged me to play at the wedding of her daughter and Chris at the Rolling Rails Lodge in Port Matilda, PA. I played outside the lodge during the cocktail hour prior to the wedding ceremony at the chapel. The weather was perfect, and the pipes were humming. This was an idyllic venue. I was pleased to support Frannie and her family.
Gus at our wedding was truly the icing on the already-amazing cake! Our guests were in awe of our bagpiper and the wonderful Irish music that was played (a nod to my Irish husband). Gus looked amazing in his Irish uniform and played beautifully throughout the recessional. Such a wonderful and magical experience!! Thank you again!

Carolyn engaged me to play at her wedding to Joe at the Narberth Presbyterian Church in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The heavy rain prevented me from playing outside after the ceremony as guests were departing, but I played continuously in the vestibule with a selection of Irish tunes. I met a number of the family and friends who were all very complimentary.
Mr. Person is a consummate professional who came dressed in the uniform of the Seaforth Highlanders circa 1917 and WWI. He gave a flawless performance playing Sgt. MacKenzie, Antlers of the Stag and Amazing Grace. If you want to have a memorable event you will surely want the man who will make it so, Mr. Gustav Person.

Mr. Langley engaged me to play at the annual Memorial Day observance at St. John's United Church of Christ in Red Lion, PA. It was an honor to represent the Seaforth Highlanders of the Great War at this service, and to play the lament in memory of Sergeant Charles Mackenzie, killed in action at the battle of Arras in 1917.
Gus arrived in full Irish regalia and played Irish songs at my friend's memorial. He was professional, respectful, and easy to communicate with. The pipes added a special touch to the celebration of life.

Margie engaged me to play at a Celebration of Life in Mechanicsburg for a good friend who had passed away in January after a long-time chronic disease. I played a number of Irish tunes and the Navy Hymn to commemorate his military service.
Gus was a 5 star performer with our church's National Tartan Day event. All aspects from asking about details in the planning stage to keeping us informed of his attire and schedule to allowing us to choose our music, Gus was spot on. He is informative in his explanation of the pipes and courteous while talking informally with the congregation. I highly recommend Gus for any occasion when a piper adds to the event.

To celebrate National Tartan Day at the McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church, I was engaged to play at their worship service. I played outside the church as parishioners were arriving, and then played for the Offertory and the Postlude. I also presented a short talk on the bagpipes. I was dressed as a piper in the 2nd Battalion, The Seaforth Highlanders in Mackenzie tartan.
We booked Gus last minute and he was phenomenal. Everyone was very pleased with his performance and are still raving about it.

Nicole engaged me to play at the Celebration of Life for a young man, a family friend, who had died too young. The event was held in a large factory building which had been converted to an event venue in Sunbury, PA. An unusually large group of family and friends attended. I played before the religious service.
We had a student morning workshop on the music of Great Britain and Ireland that began with Gus Person playing his bagpipe as the students entered the building and then on stage in the theater he gave an age appropriate demo of his instrument. He was very good with the ages we had, age 5-14.
We had a very pleasant experience. Gus showed up as scheduled and performed for a corporate event and then entertained our residents.

I was engaged to conduct a St. Patrick's Day program at the Legend at Silver Creek Assisted Living facility in Camp Hill. I performed on the Great Highland bagpipe and the Smallpipes. The large audi9ence was very enthusiastic and there were many questions. These programs are always very enjoyable.
Gus was recommended to me to play Amazing Grace at my Mother’s funeral. It was absolutely beautiful!! He spoke to the Pastor of the church, which gave me peace of mind in knowing it would go smoothly the day of. He offered to also play while the visitors arrived for the viewing/funeral & many gave compliments to me about how beautiful it was.
Thank you Gus for making this an easy process during a difficult time.
A consummate professional. We thoroughly enjoyed his performance and flexibility.
YOU WON'T REGRET HIRING HIM.

Jacqueline engaged me to play at her wedding to John at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in State College, PA. This was a magnificent church and Jacqueline requested that I wear the full-dress uniform of a piper in the Black Watch. She was so happy that she danced to a reel after greeting her guests on the steps of the church.
A special attraction at our National Specialty is our Veteran Sweepstakes. We always have a lone piper march our old dogs into the ring before judging begins. It is always an emotional time for our older dogs and their people. Gus was tremendous and everyone enjoyed the evening.

An unusual event. Coleen hired me to play at the annual National Gordon Setter Convention at the Eisenhower Hotel and Convention Center in Gettysburg. I played twice: first for the introduction of three Rescue Dogs, and secondly, for the parade of competition dogs. The competitors and audience were very appreciative.
Mr. Person was asked to play for my mother's memorial service and to dress in classic bagpiper attire. Not knowing him, I didn't know what to expect but he looked and sounded amazing. His bagpipes were the perfect compliment to an otherwise very hard and sad day. My entire family and guests were very impressed by him and were glad that he was there to add his special talent to the day.

Martha hired me to play at her mother's memorial service at the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church. I played outside the Walnut St. entrance, and then played for both the Processional and Recessional. A great deal of planning went into this engagement. The large church was filled to capacity with family and friends. Martha gifted me with a very cultural remembrance.
Outstanding Performance, outstanding presentation. Overall outstanding addition to our daughters wedding. Highly recommend!!

It was a pleasure to play at the wedding of Samantha and Conor at the Historic Shady Lane Resort in Manchester. PA. The venue was idyllic, and I received many compliments from both family and guests. I played before the ceremony as guests were arriving, and then escorted the Bridal Couple down the aisle after their first introduction by the officiant.
My Dad always liked bagpipes and when he passed unexpectedly, I knew I wanted to incorporate them into his services somehow. We decided to have Gus play as people arrived to the funeral reception and as we brought my father's cremains into the venue. The experience was truly powerful. And, one of my aunt's shared with me afterward that my father sent bagpipes to my cousin (her son) as a gift once, a story I hadn't heard before. Anyway - Gus was extremely professional. He was there well in advance, prepared, and very flexible. Gus is easy to work with and an excellent piper. I can't recommend Gus highly enough. Book him for your event - you won't be disappointed.

I was honored to play at the Reception following the funeral of a 30-year Army and National Guard veteran at the Heritage Hills Resort in York, PA. The family asked .e to plsy Amazing Grace, The Flowers of the Forest and The Army Song. A splended but sad event.
Gus Person performed beautifully at our event—his rendition of Danny Boy was heart-breakingly superb. He was flexible when things did not go according to plan and very pleasant to deal with. His outfit is immaculate, and his kindness in talking with the children about the bagpipe was deeply appreciated. A ten out of ten rating.

I played at the Celebration of Life for Maryellen's brother at the Resurrection Cemetery in Harrisburg, PA. The celebration featured my own piping as family and friends arrived as well as many prayers and singing, and also an impromptu class for the children on the bagpipes and my piping experiences.

I played at the wedding of Ron and Christiane on a hilltp at the Eagle Rock Resort in the Poconos Mountains in Hazelton, PA. As the ceremony was concluding, the thunder and lightning began to ring the surrounding mountains. This was a Scottish-Filipino wedding which included features of both cultures. A most enjoyable event.

We are so happy that we were able to hire Gus to play at my father’s 90th birthday party! My dad loved it, and so did everyone else! His wonderful music truly added to the celebration, and he looked great too! I would definitely hire him again; in fact a cousin and her husband are now planning to book him for an event this summer. Thank you Gus, for making a special day even more memorable!

I was hired to play at the 90the Birthday Celebration of a gentleman in a renovated barn at the Millersville Bible Church in Lancaster County, PA. The celebrant and all the guests were suitably surprised. I played a selection of Scottish and Irish tunes and finished off with Amazing Grand and Highland Cathedral. This was a very enjoyable experience. The guests and the celebrant were very impressed with my performance.
Gus was a tremendous addition to our wedding! His performance was magnificent and really added a uniquely tailored meaning to our special day. From the moment he reached out to our inquiry to the end of the wedding, Gus was both professional and personal and accommodated our specific requests. He also coordinated very well with our pianist and officiant to make the whole ceremony flow flawlessly. We would highly recommend Gus as the best choice to anyone considering hiring a bagpiper for any occasion! Thanks again Gus!

I was hired to play at the wedding of Patrick and Beth in the Rotunda of the State Capitol in Harrisburg, PA, - certainly a magnificent venue. I played as the Bridal Couple descended the expansive staircase at the end of the ceremony. The couple had selected The Gael as a Recessional, plus a number of other traditional Scottish tunes. The acoustics were amazing.
Gus was absolutely amazing and a huge hit at our daughters wedding!!

Four members of the Regimental Pipes & Drums performed for the wedding of Patrick and Brittsny at the Star Barn at the Stone Gables Estate. The guests were amazed and the Guinness was excellent!
Next to the haggis, Gus was the star of our Burns Supper. From planning our event to the final moments when we were singing goodbye (Auld Lang Syne) to our guests, Gus was instrumental in making the day a success. A lover of history, Gus had much to share and our friends were delighted to hear his stories and knowledge, and his piping is beautiful. A true pro!

Response from Gus Person - Piper:
I played at the Robert Burns luncheon at the family home in Lemoyne, PA. I played as all the guests were arriving, and then throughout the ceremonies. It was strictly casual, so I kept to an "undress" uniform in MacKenzie tartan. A most successful event, and delicious haggis!
Five stars are not enough for how amazing Gus is! We used him a few years back for my uncles funeral reception and we were thrilled to be able to connect with him again. I lost another uncle, and he had remembered Gus and spoke to his son before passing about trying to get a bagpiper. I was so excited to be able to book Gus. My husband and he had emailed periodically through the years, and we really have a warm place in our hearts for him. Gus helped in the song choice and suggested some more traditional songs. He played while walking up a pretty steep hill and we were happy to have him join us for food and drink after he played!! He even played as he walked down the driveway! It was beautiful and my family and uncles children were all thrilled that they could hear Gus play again!!!

Jessica and Josh engaged me to play at a memorial celebration following the funeral service for a beloved uncle. I made an entrance from the roadway and played a number of sets in front of the larger family house. The welcome and appreciation from the family was heartwarming. They graciously invited me to share food and drink inside the home, and I got to chat with many of the members. This is the kind of engagement that makes piping worthwhile!
After having gone through the trauma of losing my husband, in order to fulfill one of his requests, I needed to find a Piper for the Celebration of Life that I was organizing. I really had no idea about where to find a piper nor what criteria to use for hiring one. When Gus responded to my inquiry, he understood what I wanted. My husband's main request was having a piper play Amazing Grace. Gus assured me that he was able handle that request and then suggested playing as the guests arrived and also playing through our meal. Additionally, since we were going to be using an Irish them, he suggested wearing an Irish related kilt. It was such a pleasure to know that the part of the Celebration that I thought would be difficult, was above and beyond what I had expected. Gus is a pleasure to work with, his piping was beyond expectations and I would recommend him for any event where piping was part of the plan.

Judi hired me to play at the Celebration of Life for her late husband at the Dallastown Fire Station in York, PA. I was pleased to play as people were gathering, and then played Amazing Grace after the prayers. I also played later after the meal as people were socializing. The meal that was served had an Irish theme and the Shepherd's Pie was outstanding. It was great to work with Judi who was welcoming and accommodating.
It was wonderful working with Gus. It was easy and he filled our requests with no issues. I would definitely recommend him and I would use him again.

I played at the Irish-themed wedding of Janay and Sean at the Linwood United Methodist Church in Marcus Hook, PA. I played as the guests and wedding parties were arriving; and then both for the Processional and Recessional (Let Erin Remember...the Days of Old).
We engaged Gus to perform at a Memorial Service in a University Chapel. We requested that Gus play Amazing Grace along with the great Pipe Organ in the Chapel. The sound was awesome. Gus worked well with the organist. He also played some Scottish favorites. He also told some history about his final number. When I read his resume, I stopped looking. I knew Gus was the person I was looking for. His fee is reasonable and it includes travel expenses. I highly recommend him.

It was a beautiful summer day, and the campus was packed with students readying for the beginning of the academic year. I played in the plaza outside the front doors before and after the wedding ceremony. An impressive event!
Mr. Person was professional, attentive to instructions, committed and focused to the ceremony and talented in his performance as well as took his cues perfectly. I appreciated his self-initiative. I played for the Convocation Ceremony at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. About 1,000 students of the Class of 2026 were in attendance at the event. I played at the conclusion of the ceremony as the staff and faculty and the students exited the auditorium and the center. A very impressive event!
Gus was an absolute pleasure to work with during a recent memorial service. He offered helpful suggestions, such as providing song options and offering to play the Air Force song (the deceased was a AF veteran). It was a special touch that added meaning to the service. The family was incredibly happy with his performance and we would recommend him to anyone!

In Manheim, PA, I played at the annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony at the Veterans Park. As a prelude, I played a number of Military Service songs prior to the formal ceremony. I wore the historic uniform of a Black Watch piper in 1942 in North Africa. This was one of the best Memorial Day ceremonies that I have ever attended.
Gus was absolutely exceptional in his playing at my mother’s memorial service. He arrived an hour early and was prompt in his playing for what we had requested. His playing helped my family have positive emotions as we honored our mother. His communication before, during, and after the event were top notch. I would highly recommend him to play at any event. He was very cordial in conversations and was very personable. His playing was the cherry on top!

I was pleased to play at the 70th Wedding Anniversary Celebration for an Irish-American couple at the historic stone Franklin House Tavern in Schaefferstown, PA. It is not often that one gets to celebrate such a milestone. I was able to play both the Great Highland Bagpipe and the Smallpipes. I played a number of requests and interspersed my tunes with some commentary about the pipes, my attire and piping experiences. I also enjoyed a delicious dinner.

Ann hired me to play at three thirst emporiums on this Saturday morning which started out with freezing rain and then changed to snow by 8:00 AM. Fortunately, the driving distances were short. I wore traditional Irish attire and played selections of Irish tunes for the guests to kick off the St. Patrick's Day season. I received great reactions from all the guests. Thanks for the terrific Review and the photo.

At the St. James' Episcopal Church in downtown Lancaster city, I provided bagpipe accompaniment for the St. Andrew's Day celebration. The event was held around the fountain in the Cloister area. I played before and after the ceremony. A large number of parishioners stayed to observe after the regular 10:30 AM service. Many of them were resplendent in Scottish tartans. A most enjoyable event.
Mr. Person (Gus) is the consummate professional. He played at our father's graveside funeral service. His music was beautiful and provided comfort to us. Gus was wonderful to work with in selecting the pieces of music and discussing the timing of his playing (as the family and guests were arriving at the cemetery, during the service, and then at the conclusion as the sun was setting). Kind, talented, professional, we were in excellent hands. I would strongly recommend Gus to anyone desiring a bagpiper for their event. He is as personable as he is talented; I feel very, very fortunate to have been able to engage Gus for Dad's service.

Lisa booked me to play at the funeral of her father in the rural Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg, PA. The cemetery was located on a low knoll, surrounded on each side by the mountains. As her father was a U.S. Air Force veteran, I sent up the strains of "Here we go, Into the Wild Blue Yonder..." as the late afternoon sun began to set. The grave was marked by an impressive Celtic cross which dominated almost the entire cemetery. Lisa couldn't have been better to work with, and her family and friends were most appreciative.
