Harmony Express is a barbershop chorus, open to both men and women, headquartered in Germantown, MD. We perform as a full chorus, as quartets or as octets, depending on the occasion. Our singers have experience in a variety of venues, indoor and outdoor, from formal shows to the Montgomery County Fair (strolling minstrels: see photo) to private parties. I specified a travel distance of 60 miles, but the chorus or a quartet could go farther on weekends.
Harmony Express did a beautiful job serenading my friend for her 60th birthday. They were very easy to work with- they were punctual, attire was well coordinated, and they sang beautifully. She was thrilled with the event. I would definitely hire them again.
Harmony Express performed exceptionally well expressing my love to my wife at work. Her teammates were impressed with the performance and the group worked through the challenges of getting into a high school to serenade my wife for her milestone birthday. Their performance coordinator was also very responsive. It was a great event! Thank you to all involved!
Response from Harmony Express:
Thanks, Matt! Our chorus loves to get out in the community and share the joy of barbershop singing. Your wife (and everyone at the school) was delightful, and we feel like we made some new friends. We hope to see you at some of our events... follow us at Facebook/harmonyexpressmd to stay updated.
Harmony Express was very easy to hire. Not a lot of paperwork -- they just needed the facts of when and where to perform. They were on time and dressed like a Barber Shop Quartet. Their sound technicians arrived and setup all the mikes and speakers for their performance. They sang for 20 minutes and the ladies were delighted!! I was pleasantly surprised with the cost of hiring Harmony Express. Money well spent!!
Response from Harmony Express:
Thank you, Karen. It was a pleasure serving your group.
Review readers, please note: The old-time barbershop costume was by special request. If this is something you require, please be sure to ask for it. Our usual attire is khaki pants and red polos or tuxedoes.
They sounded good, from what I could hear. I would have given them all 5 stars, except for the fact they were wearing masks. I received several comments in regards to this. I was told that it was due to several members being immune compromised. There were about a dozen singers that day. In hiring a barbershop quartet, I had only expected at least 4, so that was an impressive number. Even so, there were enough available to have those that weren't comfortable not wearing a mask, to just not participate in the event, so we could hear the remainder much better.
Response from Harmony Express:
Thanks, Julie. At the start of the performance, I circled the performance area to make sure Harmony Express could be heard from all adjacent areas, and I adjusted the system to levels that served those listeners well. I also spoke with audience members who all indicated they were enjoying the performance. I am glad you thought they sounded good, and thank you for the 4 star rating!
I apologize that I did not make clear that we would be wearing masks. For those unfamiliar, however, I can advise that per the Barbershop Harmony Society's COVID-19 INTERIM GUIDANCE, updated a couple of months ago, "singing is classified as a 'high exhalation' activity. Science suggests that the physical act of singing creates more aerosolized droplets than any other form of vocalizing. Aerosolized droplets can travel farther and remain in the air longer than droplets created by breathing or speaking." Singing also requires deep inhalation, which puts the singer at risk. As a result, Harmony Express wears masks, both for the safety of its audience and the safety of the singers.

Harmony Express is a barbershop style mixed a cappella chorus, founded in 2009 as a chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society. We entertain the citizens of Montgomery County and the surrounding area through paid and unpaid public appearances by the full chorus, octets or quartets; provide musical training and performance opportunities to its members; and preserve a traditional American art form, four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style.
