The origin story of Hearts Club Band is probably similar to that of many bands; four individuals who were inspired by their musical idols to take up an instrument, and to experience performing the music they held so dear. The musical icon that inspired the members of Hearts Club Band was a common one, as it was to countless musicians of their era. These four guys were of an age many years ago where on a particular Sunday night in the glow of black and white televisions across America, something magical happened that changed the world in a good way. An entire generation was mesmerized by the Fab Four on that fateful Sunday night in 1964. The Beatles were fresh and new, playing an energetic style of music that had never been heard before.
In the afterglow of that performance the essence of Hearts Club Band was born, its four future band members each following their own Beatle influenced path to where they are today.
Jon Hunt was drawn to the guitar early on, and it is evident that he has studied the lead guitar style of George Harrison, from the early rockabilly sounds to the later rock and Indian scale influenced riffs. Bob Farmer found his true instrument in the bass, and for decades now has immersed himself the innovative Beatle bass parts of Paul McCartney. Rodney Wright’s Beatle influences came from Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison, leading him to guitar, harmonica and piano/keyboards, but a serious lack of coordination forever kept him from the drums. Fortunately for the band, the drummer’s calling was heard by Chad Fisher. Chad’s mastery of Ringo’s deceptively simple drum style is what drives the group.
Hearts Club Band is attentive to all the aspects that people love about Beatles music. They pride themselves on recreating the Beatles precise and unique vocal harmonies, which are often overlooked when singing praises of the Beatles. Much has been spoken regarding the Beatles’ infectious melodies and innovative lyrics, and rightly so, but Hearts Club Band examines the musical skeleton and muscular structure of each song, analyzing and perfecting the signature instrumental parts that are subtle, yet integral to the songs that we’ve grown to know and love. Every familiar guitar lick, each note of the melodic bass line, and the excitement of Ringo’s drum fills are represented in each song Hearts Club Band presents. It’s that sort of attention to detail that they are known for, and when it’s all put together it is tremendous fun to listen to.
