Jamilla provides quality, professional, belly dance entertainment for audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Usually having a belly dancer at your event or party means guests will view a full choreographed show, complete with the traditional music of the dancer's choosing. If you have special requests for music, you can always be accommodated. Jamilla dances with Isis wings, light up Isis wings, veils, zils (finger cymbals), fan veils, cane/sticks (Saidi folkloric prop), sword, shamadan (candelabra) and fire dance! You can choose which props and styles of dance, if any, you would like to have at your event, as not all of these are used for a full set. A full set is usually anywhere from 15-45 minutes, based on your party needs and budget. Jamilla will arrive approximately 30 minutes ahead of the set performance time to meet with organizer, change and safely store items in changing area. If there is a DJ, the DJ will have the music delivered in preferable format ahead of the event date, usually within a week of the event. If there is a stage, the entrance will be made onto the stage and performed on said stage. If the venue is more intimate, Jamilla can accommodate for any space, big or small, for large audiences or for a few special spectators; she can tailor the show to your viewing pleasure. Jamilla is also a natural with audience interaction and participation as this is a very common practice when there is a belly dancer at your party! She makes it super fun and exciting, and her smile is infectious, her moves intoxicating! It is not necessary to tip a dancer, although in some traditional circles, whether the party is formal or casual, money can be thrown at the dancer or sometimes is accepted on her person in the belt of her costume. Jamilla has many costumes, in various colors and styles, if you have a special preference based on a theme for your event or party, you can request a specific color or style to make it extra special for photo opportunities. If it falls within the agreed upon time frame of "performance" there can also be more audience engagement, mini "lessons" for guest/s of honor, and photo opportunities at the end of and after the dance performance. Jamilla is very flexible when it comes to when's and how's so if you need help in organizing the show and/or showtime, she can help! Coordinating with event planners and organizers is a specialty that Jamilla has been practicing for years and is very comfortable working with them. Jamilla has been performing and teaching belly dance throughout Los Angeles for over two decades. As a seasoned professional within the belly dance community, she practices American and Egyptian Cabaret-style belly dance, or Raqs Sharqi. She respects the art of belly dance and keeps it elevated within the cultural context of the Middle East, North Africa, Greece, Armenia and beyond and performs mostly to Arabic music and rhythms. Jamilla is also very comfortable performing to live music and drumming, as is traditional in Middle Eastern culture and the events that call for a belly dancer to perform, as well as recorded DJ music. Those events have been many and various throughout her years of professional experience: from weddings, birthdays, showers, anniversaries, and retirement parties to staged corporate events, art and cultural festivals, red carpet soirees and everything in between! Jamilla was a regular belly dancer at the world famous Dar Maghreb restaurant in Hollywood, CA for the last decade it was opened. She is currently performing regularly at Moun of Tunis Restaurant in Hollywood, CA. Jamilla has entertained audiences of all ages at many different eateries and traditional Middle Eastern, Persian, Greek and other Mediterranean establishments all over the Los Angeles area, as well as venues in Las Vegas, Palm Springs and San Diego.
