What to Expect
I play and sing as a solo act or with a duo/trio/full band in a variety of styles, including instrumental blues and folk, singer/songwriter-style acoustic, and electric blues tunes from the decades and now. I show up early and set up by plugging into the existing system or bringing my own sound system, including a guitar amp, a PA, a mixer, and a microphone for solo acts. I perform a brief sound check to ensure that the mix works well with the space provided. I am flexible with my set list and do my best to accommodate song requests within reason. I dress to the standards called for by the organizer and adjust my level of presence to what is expected in the performance space. Thank you for your consideration!
About
Jana Rose began her music journey on the piano with private lessons at age 5. Around age 12 she began teaching herself acoustic guitar and later moved to electric. Her guitar playing style began in folk and expanded to blues and jazz quickly. From a young age she was tapped to play graduation ceremonies, private parties, community events, church worship services, duos, and even on the Istanbul ferry boat in Turkey. Jana's singing abilities complement her playing and are wrought from a deep love of acoustic music and close attention to techniques found in blues, jazz, and folk traditions as well as world music.
Jana has been leading bands with vocals and guitar/piano for 9 years. Her strengths lie in her improvisational vocals and solid understanding of rhythm and tone. She frequently attends blues, jazz, and singer-songwriter jams in the Atlanta area to develop her connection to music, and she finds it nearly impossible to say "no" to karaoke engagements.
Jana was raised in Georgia and is originally from the Hunan province of China. She currently resides in Atlanta and spends her spare time attending local social dances, creating visual art, designing graphics, studying foreign languages, writing poetry, and reading non-fiction.
Additional Booking Notes
I am flexible with my technical requirements but I do prefer to either 1) work with the sound technician to find a suitable mix or 2) spend 2–5 minutes adjusting the levels on my own sound system so that we can find the best settings for the room and for my sound.
