Since 2014, Jeff Newman has wowed audiences with his award-winning performances at events, theatres, festivals, and on cruise ships across the globe. Combining Science, Suggestion, and Good Old-Fashioned Trickery, Jeff puts on a show jam-packed with mind-boggling mentalism and magic that has astounded crowds and dropped jaws the world over. Audiences laugh, gasp, and cheer as they experience a one-of-a-kind spectacle like they’ve never seen before.

Jeff Newman has also been featured on CBC, CTV, Global TV, several radio appearances, and has performed his critically-acclaimed shows to sell-out crowds and rave reviews in Canada, the USA, and Australia.

In addition to mentalism and magic, Jeff has been seen on stage as an actor and improviser. In 2012, Jeff made his acting debut in the world premiere play 1000 Names by Cheslea Woolley, and has performed in several stage productions since. Jeff also was a recurring ensemble member of an improv theatre group based in Lethbridge, Alberta from 2012 to 2016.
Jeff currently resides in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where he continues to create and perform his own unique brand of magic.

Newman Mentalism Performance Requirements:
1. SOUND SYSTEM: The Sound System is integral element to the success of the show. The client is to ensure the venue provides a GOOD QUALITY system in proper working condition, and must include the following:
a. Accessible controls for sound adjustment, as well as an XLR input for a wireless headset microphone system in addition to any other microphones incorporated into the system.
b. At least one available standard power outlet near the mixer or amplifier.
c. Minimum of one speaker capable of projecting sound throughout the room or venue
d. One wireless handheld microphone
NOTE: Most professional performance venues will have a PA system compatible with the above requirements. However, some hotels, banquet halls, DJ’s or bands may not have adequate sound equipment for a performance. If you are unsure if your equipment is adequate for the performance, please contact Jeff at least four weeks prior to the performance date to review details and make the proper arrangements.

2. LIGHTING: Jeff’s performances take place both on stage and throughout the room or venue. Therefore, both areas must be adequately lit so the performer is visible to the audience, and vice versa. Any existing room lighting is usually sufficient. If the venue is capable of theatrical lighting, a basic stage wash and house lights are all that is needed.

3. STAGE: Most venues have a stage, dance floor, or space that can be used as a stage. However, it is recommended that:
a. Dimensions of the performance area measure 12 feet (3.7 metres) across by 8 feet (2.4 metres) deep.
b. The stage must be clear of any obstructions (podiums, cables, speakers, band or DJ equipment, etc.) prior to the start of the performance.
c. The stage should be level, smooth, and clean. Mirrors or reflective surfaces behind the stage should be covered.
d. The stage must have easy access for audience members and the performer to come on and off stage as needed. This may include (but not limited to) walkways from the audience, stairs, or ramps.
NOTE: If any other performers, entertainers, or artists are using the stage during the event, please notify Jeff to make any necessary arrangements to accommodate additional acts.

4. SEATING: Seating should be in front of the stage (and not surrounding it), with the distance from the first row of seating to the front of the stage being approximately 6 feet (1.8 metres). If a dance floor or empty space is in front of the stage, please fill that space with seating for the performance. Lines of sight to and from the stage should be free of any obstructions blocking the view of the performer or the audience. Also, clear paths for the performer to access the audience should be available.

5. ACCESS: Jeff requires a minimum of 90 minutes prior to the beginning of audience arrival for set up and sound check. Morning shows may require access to the venue the night before.

6. STORAGE AND PREPARATION: Jeff requires a small space to store and prepare show materials and props. This room should be safe, secure, and close to the performance space. Coat rooms, dressing rooms, offices, storage rooms with ample space, or parts of a room sectioned off with curtains or partitions are usually adequate.

7. BILLING: Jeff shall be billed as a “Mentalist,” “Mentalist and Magician,” or “Mind-Reader.”

8. COLLATERAL USE: Jeff allows photography, video, and social media posting during his performance, on the provision that any images, video, or posts are accessible and reviewable by Jeff if needed. Audience members are free to take video or photos during the show.
