I talk about everything from porn to prom in my comedy. I'm a bit of a potty mouth, but I clean up real good....
As a motivational speaker I talk about my cancer journey and how comedy help me power thru my treatment and how others should find the funny also. As a YOUNG breast cancer survivor (diagnosed before the standard screening age of 40) I discuss issues that are relevant to younger survivors.
With a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Pittsburgh Jenny was a member of the Friday Night Improv Comedy troupe there. In 2001 she was a member of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre's playwriting unit where she completed her first play, Dancing in the Mirror which was showcased that October at the PSNBC Public Space studios in New York City and, directed by screenwriter Maria Escobedo. Dancing in the Mirror won one of five spots in the 2003 Fifth Annual National Hispanic Playwrights Festival in Fort Worth, Texas. Jenny was featured in two of HBO Latino's HABLA series, the original and the follow up HABLA YA! She co-starred with Sascha Baron Cohen in the role of Hannah in THE DICTATOR and is featured in Cedric Klapisch's latest film CHINESE PUZZLE. In January of 2006 Jenny heard the most devastating words most people would ever hear: “You have cancer." From the sorrow that is cancer came Jenny's second and most personal play, PINK: The Chronicles of BC Jenny. A funny, yet touching and very real account of her breast cancer journey. Cancer gave Jenny the courage to leave her corporate job and pursue her dreams in comedy, acting and writing. She has learned to pay it forward and has made it her ministry to be there for anyone at the start of their cancer journey. Because of all of this, cancer has, believe it or not, blessed her. She is often asked to speak to various groups (including Microsoft, Avon Foundation, American Cancer Society, Komen for the Cure, H&M and Footlocker) and colleges nation wide. Through her speaking engagements she is able to share her inspiring story of a young Latina with breast cancer and also spread cancer awareness. She was a 2008 New York Post Liberty Leadership Award nominee and a 2008 Cervantes Society honoree for all of her hard work with breast cancer. PINK: The Chronicles of BC Jenny won 3rd place in the 2008 national Repertorio Espaol’s Met Life Nuestras Voces Playwriting Competition. Her play PLEASE HOLD was showcased at the 2nd Annual Ultimate Latina Theatre Festival at the legendary Nuyorican Poet’s Caf in June of 2009. She was the creative director of the festival’s 3rd year at the Nuyorican where she directed and conceived CHICK FLIX an all female parody of some of the most popular films of the past 20 years. She was the co-writer, star and inspiration on Happy Cancer Chick, a web series that features real stories of cancer survivors. As a budding comic Jenny has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some of best comedians in the business in clubs all over New York City and beyond.
