John Friday

Solo show: My shows are tailored to the specific needs/desires of the event planner and the audience. With a repertoire of well over 1400 songs, and the willingness to learn any song requested, I can provide exactly the sort of show desired, whether a specific genre or a wide-ranging eclectic performance.
I also cheerfully take requests during shows; my motto is, "I'll do any song I know, and half the ones I don't!" 😉 (I even have three different versions of Freebird, for THOSE guys 🤣).

Band shows: Aa Laurel Canyon East show is marked by familiar tunes done in our own unique style, with stylish four-part harmonies and (often) as many as 28 strings at a time (double 12-string guitars and a bass)! Instrumentation is rounded out with drums, percussion, harmonicas, flute and keyboard.

What you can expect from either show: Professionalism at every stage, and ON every stage. Punctuality and respect for your time, event, venue and audience. Easy and courteous communication; I am always just a phone call, text or email away, and will attend to any contingency without delay.

John Friday is a singer/songwriter originally from Maryland, now living in North Carolina. John takes his audience on a musical journey, with a wide variety of rock, folk, country, reggae, Americana, and island styles.
John Friday covers popular songs from every decade of the pop and rock era. From the crooners of the 40s and rock ‘n’ roll of the 50s, from the British Invasion bands of the 60s to the singer-songwriters of the 70s, and from the “hair pop” of the 80s to the alt-rock legends of today, John plays the songs you know and love, as well as gems from the “ ‘B-side’ of the album” that will bring back memories of the era. John can tailor his show to any audience or venue.
More than just a cover artist, John Friday writes original music in several styles, “some funny, some serious, always entertaining.” His debut CD, Coastal Dreamin’, was released in January 2010 and features nine of John’s original songs. He has released three more since then, and is currently producing a fifth.
John’s performances garnered a place in the finals of the Landshark Lager Battle of the Bands in 2009, which included a live performance and video shoot in the prestigious 12th And Porter Theater in Nashville. John was the only solo artist, and the only Trop Rock artist, in the finals. His powerful songwriting skills have also earned Top Ten in the Dallas Songwriters contest and an Honorable mention in the American Songwriter Lyrics Contest.

John is also available as part of the folk-rock band, Laurel Canyon East, a 5-piece ensemble covering music from the 60s and 70s up to today, centered on the Laurel Canyon music scene. The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Mama's & Papas, CSN&Y and more are brought to life!
John built a huge following throughout Florida and the eastern seaboard, before relocating to NC in 2020.
His original songs have charted on numerous terrestrial and internet radio stations.
