John performs with a professional sound system that provides a polished background for his unique and novel expression of familiar melodies and lyrics and also smooth original solos on sax and flute. He is sensitive to the needs of their audience and adjust from being the center of attention in some parts of the show to providing pleasing background music for guests' conversations to be heard. For shorter events, he will not take breaks, but when the show is longer than an hour and a half, hourly 10-minute breaks are necessary.
John Goodwin has been playing saxophone and flute for 50 years, and has always had an attraction to jazz, though he was classically trained in saxophone performance in college. His other major was chemistry and he has been teaching college chemistry since 1989. Over the years he has shared the stage with Ray Charles, and numerous jazz groups in Houston, Texas and Conway, South Carolina. His most recent partnership was with bassist Mike Hall in the Hi Lo Duo which played gigs from Charleston to Wilmington, but mostly in the Grand Strand.
If a professional sound system is not available for your event, then John will include a PA system with microphones. Electrical outlets are needed for the sound system and computer that provide the backing tracks.
If stage lighting is not available but desired, John will provide basic lighting.
