Happy, kind attitude, laid back sing along vibe, upbeat songs, not downers. I like to keep it simple with the banter, if the crowd is joking around with me and engaging, I am able to make it a really fun night! Countless times I've had singalongs, dancing and lots of joy occur around my performances. I usually organize my sets into 3 45 to 50 minute sets for most gigs are 3 hours and I take short breaks between sets. I always arc the set to be increasingly engaging, with the most popular songs at the end. All of the songs I play are recognizable and quality songs, I've been told and believe I have a real ear for music.
John Hanson has humble beginnings. An eager music fanatic who began to pen songs and soon after set about recording them on his Dad’s old 4 track tape machine. This type of activity continued, although the technology changed from a digital 8 track to the limitless Pro Tools/DAW. At this point he has been writing and recording for over 17 years. Accumulating expertise over time, John is releasing his highly anticipated debut studio album at the age of 33.
For some more history, John began hosting open mic's regularly at the age of 19 and began playing covers and originals at local bars. This lead to the formation of the rock band OFFBEAT MOTIF in 2012 who played in the Boston Music scene at clubs including the legendary Middle East, Thunder Road, Hard Rock Cafe, Copperfield's, PA's Lounge and Sally O'Brien's. The band released a self-titled EP in 2015 and was the "Home Brewed feature artist" on WBRU 95.5 FM, a premier alternative rock station in Providence RI. With radio play on multiple FM stations, online features, and print press, and hundreds of physical sales, the album was a local success.
John has released over 80 songs online on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. He estimates that he's written over 2,000 songs. He records the demos at his home studio, playing the bass, drums and keyboard, and through this practice became well versed in the recording process. After a decade or so of self-taught music production, he earned a Certificate in Audio Engineering and Music Production from the Recording Connection Institute in LA. The certificate was gained with a 6 month apprenticeship at Plaid Dog Studios in Allston. John has gained additional experience acting as the current music manager at The Ravens Nest in Walpole MA, touring and recording an album with The Daybreakers Band (as an official band member for two years), opening for The Beach Boys and Three Dog Night, producing an album for M. Curly.
The release of John Hanson's first professional album next year is sure to put this local talent on a larger map. His drive and musical prowess compliment an original voice. Stay tuned to this artist as he continues to grow, you will be glad you did.
