Overview
I am a popular performer packing breweries, wine bars, and coffee shops multiple times a month. I can play all original or a vast array of cover tunes from the 60's through today. I interact well with a crowd or I can hide in the background if you desire. I am a singer/songwriter and I have a good voice as well as being an instrumentalist. I often incorporate other instruments such as harmonica and ukulele.
I play the social scene, private parties, open houses, birthday gigs, weddings, funerals, and I'll even sing you to sleep.
I Can Also Put Together Whole Bands For Bigger Gigs.
Let's make your event as special as it can be! --John

John provided the most beautiful music for our wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and first dances. I was walking down the aisle, and with all of the emotions and feelings happening in that moment- his music still made its way to the forefront of my mind. I remember thinking holy cow this guy sounds incredible!!
John was so easy to work with leading up to the wedding. He was eager to understand our vision and dreams for our wedding music. He took all of my specifics (and i did have some heavy type-A bridal specifics), but he also ran with the areas that I didn't feel the need to manage- the best of both worlds!!
Our guests are still talking about how great our musician was. He sang our first dance song and it is honestly my favorite rendition of the song I've ever heard. This made our moment even more special. We are blown away with how much John added to our day! Please do not hesitate to book him, seriously exceeded our wildest expectations. We can't thank you enough, John!

Response from John Voelz:
Kate and Cody, thank you so much for the amazing review. Wow. I always enjoy weddings. One of my favorite things is doing weddings for people that I meet through Gig Salad. It’s fun to become friends over the months of planning and finally see each other face-to-face on the event day. Your wedding was gorgeous from top to bottom. I really appreciate your trust in me. Peace and love to you both. —John

Thanks, James! Fun show. Looking to more.
John performed at our wedding reception earlier this month and we are so glad we went with him. He had great energy and played so many different songs wonderfully. So many of our friends and family commented on the great music and good vibe. John was so great to work with, too. There were some transportation hiccups about a week before our event that could have prevented him from being able to be there but he reached out and worked with us so that he could attend. We are grateful to have had such a fun, kind, and talented musician to play at our event and we highly recommend him!

We booked John to play at mine and my husband’s 60th and 70th birthday party. John's setlist touch everyone at the party that spanned generations. We had a couple musicians in the crowd and their comments were, "This guy is good!" We will definitely use John again. John thank you for making our party a success.

John played at an indoor/outdoor party for 50; our guests enjoyed the song selections, the appropriate volume level (we're old geezers), his voice is fantastic. His selection of southern rock, country, "classics", contemporary & hits was spot-on.
Book him!

John hit it out of the park for my father's memorial service , the music was exactly what we were looking for. He was very receptive to what type of atmosphere we were trying to create to honor my father. We picked out the pieces together and John's wide ranging repertoire covered classic hymns to Elvis to Green Day. The music provided the perfect ambience for a classy service honoring my dad's memory. The upbeat Nat King Cole piece ended the service on an upbeat note. Many attendees wanted John's information after the service they were so impressed. I highly recommend this talented artist.
Thankyou John!

We recently had John out to our resort for an evening of live music, and boy did he deliver! His set list was phenominal, the way his voice transformed the billboard toppers of Harry Styles and Britney Spears to his rendition of Tennessee Whiskey, John worked the stage. To top it all off, he was such an easy vendor to work with, quick to reply and never hard to get in contact with.

John played music for my mother’s memorial service. He did an absolutely incredible job and we highly recommend him! Anybody looking for a solo artist to sing and play guitar should give John a call. A lot of people were asking for his cards after the service because they were so impressed.

There are not enough words and at the saurus to describe the quality professionalism generosity kindness and talent for John Voelz. We found him on the gig salad app we definitely hit the jackpot! Our event had 80 vendors and school population of 3000. Not only did he receive compliments from every person I spoke to at the event but he did not bow out even when the weather started to get chilly. I am so grateful to have met him and cannot wait to partner with him again at our next fundraiser. Thank you again John for making our event enjoyable and keeping our good vibes going 🙌

Rebecca, you all did such a wonderful job. Thanks for trusting me for your event. I had fun. I appreciate the love.
John has so much talent and is a great guy to work with! He was organized with his quality equipment, had an amazing repertoire and a good sense of what songs would appeal to the crowd of mixed generations (harvest party in the orchard-50 adults, 10 kids). He played in the background for awhile but it soon became obvious he was worthy of center stage! Rave reviews from our guests. Thanks John!

Lois, I had an amazing time with your friends and family. Thanks for trusting me with this special event and thank you for being so kind to a stranger and welcoming me into the circle. I look forward to seeing you again. Thanks for the kind words. Great to meet you!
I worked with John to create a memorable, on-location experience culminating in my proposing to my (now) fiancee. After my initial submission through Gig Salad, John was immediately responsive, really easy to work with, and--since the requested song was a duet--found a female singer to accompany him. You can tell that John really cares about the folks with whom he works, and he intuitively contributed to the moment I was hoping we would experience. It was a tender, heartfelt performance, and John even took some really neat pictures of my fiancee and me after the song was concluded, including one "surreptitious" photo that came out incredibly well!
John: Heather and I thank you and Jeanne for a very special moment!

Dan, that moment goes down in history as one of my very favorites. And, I have been doing this a long time. Thank you so much for the kind words and the privilege of being a part of your special moment.
I had a birthday party for one of the doctors at work, I invited family, friends and co-workers. In other words, a very mixed crowd. The reviews I received after the event were top rate! All ages enjoyed him! Looking back on pictures, I did see lots of people hunkered down in front of him, or near by to listen! He was great!

John is amazing! We had a beautiful afternoon celebration for my father. John provided just the right touch for our event. He is very good to work with. His music made the event more special.
John was early, well-prepared, and easy to get along with. He communicated clearly and timely before the event. His music made the event and we are so glad we picked him. I highly recommend him.

Tracy, thanks so much for including me in your celebration. I love backyard parties. Thanks for the kind words. Peace and love to you guys.
We hired John, sight unseen, for our President's retirement party. I knew what vibe I wanted - I just couldn't find it. Until we found John. He is a fantastic singer, is so accommodating, has a great personality, and seems genuinely happy to make sure things are perfect for your event! His style and the music he played and sang were perfect for our event! Guests loved hanging out and listening to him. I've planned hundreds of events, and if you want worry-free entertainment, John's your guy!
John was a true pleasure to work with. He performed at my father’s Celebration of Life and was very accommodating to all of my requests. John had a lot of great songs from the 60s and 70s already in his repertoire which was perfect for the occasion and added a few more for us. Everyone raved about him and went as far as to say he’s performance of Harvest Moon was better than Neil Young’s. I would hire John again in a heartbeat. Thank you for everything John!

Marika, it was a joy for me to help make the occasion special. Thank you so much for the opportunity. And, your kind words.
John was excellent, he kept in touch before the event, showed up early and even brought a rose, which I requested at the last minute! Such a professional, and perfect gentleman, he did the 2 songs I requested, my sister cried, she said it was "amazing". I couldn't ask for more, thanks to John, I hope your career takes off like a space shuttle!

Including John in our small backyard party was the best decision ever. He showed up early, was super nice and so talented. He even stayed late to keep the party going without being asked or expecting additional payment. I would hire him again in a heartbeat. A great talent and a great person. :)

Thank you, Heather! I loved playing your party. You have a beautiful home and you’re a kind and generous host.
John performed at a community kick off event for the non-profit I run, Folsom's Hope. He did such an amazing job of providing entertainment, just the right level of fun mixed in with the music, and he was incredibly engaging with the crowd. After the event, I heard from many people who attended that the event would not have been so fun and successful had John not been there - I couldn't agree more! Not only is John incredibly talented, but he is responsible, funny, and just overall great to work with!

Response from John Voelz:
Thanks, Salwa! Loved it. Thanks for asking me.
I have had the privilege of having John play multiple times at events for me. He is an energetic performer and a very skilled musician who will build the perfect set list based on the event where he is performing. He really delivers!

Response from John Voelz:
Thanks, Jason. Your parties are a treat!
I have had the privilege of working with John on multiple events over a decade, and I can honestly say that he brought the full package. John is a musician of the highest caliber. The people at my events loved his musical style, which can vary from rock to folk. Regardless of style, there is an authenticity to his work that draws you in. Not only is John a great musician, he is also a showman. He involved the audience in his performances, he told stories with his music, and he even found a way to engage children in an interactive songwriting experience! Finally, John is professional. He shows up on time, he does what he says he is going to do, and communication leading up to the event is clear and consistent. Again - he's the full package.
If I was putting on an event tomorrow, and could bring in one musician that I knew would deliver great music, a great show, and do it in a professional manner - I'd pick John Voelz.

Response from John Voelz:
Thank you, Ben. It's awesome to work with you.
I manage a brewery in Folsom and have heard John play before, so I asked him to come do a music night at the brewery. The first time was 5 months ago, and I've booked him 4 other times since then because he's That good. John has a voice full of soul that carries over different genres: blues, rock, pop, even a little country. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Britney Spears, James Brown, Tracey Chapman, he literally can play it all. Not only is he an incredible guitarist, but also busted out the banjo, harmonica, and ukulele! John does an incredible job of interacting with the audience and adds humor into his style, which makes you feel like you're already friends with the guy. If you have an event, birthday party, celebration, fundraiser, whatever, he is incredible!

I have had the privilege of seeing John perform at various events: wine bars, restaurants, at my rehearsal dinner, etc. This man has an amazing voice and is seriously talented with the various instruments that he plays: guitar, piano, harmonica..Is there an instrument he doesn't know how to play?? He really is perfect for any event that you might be considering throwing. John can play various genres of music and is so entertaining! He is not only a top notch performer but he is also extremely professional and will be in contact with you all the way up to the date of your event. If you want one less thing to stress about while planning your event, John Voelz is the way to go!

Jim, thanks so much. Working with Prospect was a real treat for me and a highlight.
I have booked John to perform at events at my church in Fairfield three different times, most recently about 4 weeks ago. John is not only super talented (how many people do you know who can play the harmonica And the guitar at the same time?), but he is also a gracious and engaging presence on the stage. He has a way of disarming and relaxing people with his humor and easy-going personality. The music he has performed for us has been a mix of originals and covers, including "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young. He's equally great at doing solo sets and working with the house band provided to him. He's able to work in brief stories and personal experiences between songs that help create a smooth flow throughout the set. I encourage you to reach out to John and speak with him about performing at your next event.

Thank you, Matt. You're a good human. I enjoy playing for your people.
John is always on time and great with communication before and during events. He has the unique ability to read a crowd and cater his music perfectly to the energy of the event. Need some chill background music or high-energy tunes for your party? Check and check. Want a catchy acoustic cover of a Britney Spears song? Check. Want a perfect mix of humor and heart for your wedding? Check. Looking to draw a crowd to your business/event? Check—he packs and rocks the house, every time. His vibrant stage presence is the cherry on top of his amazing musical talents. I have been privileged to see John perform at many events and most recently reached out to him to play music for my child’s elementary school class (yes, he’s even great with kids)! Hire John and you’ll find yourself smiling, tapping your feet and feeling carefree knowing you hired the Best!

Thank you, Jorge. I love playing there and thanks for your kind words.
John took my place as the music leader at my church while I was out of town. I was able to listen and watch videos of that morning. The interactions between him and the people showed me they were in good hands. We are all thankful to have had such quality and gifted talent in our church.
While I was still out of town, I began to get texts from the folks who attended the service. They loved him and want him to come back.
He listened to my requests for music/song choices and followed through to the letter. He also fit right in and interacted with the people who were there. They loved him!
He played and sang an original song that still moves my heart when I listen to it. He’s a gifted song writer, as well.
I couldn't have had a better replacement. We’re all hoping he’ll visit us again some day!

Response from John Voelz:
Thank you, Lori! It was such a treat to play for your people. I'd love to come back sometime.
Spring fever had hit hard, yet John Voelz mesmerized my squirmy class of Kindergarteners. He gave them an introduction to music and songwriting, then incorporated their wacky ideas into a brilliant band catchy original song. His talent is off the charts. He reads his audience well, and makes them a part of his performance. Bravo! Five stars!

I loved working with your kids so much! Thanks for the opportunity.
John was our guest musician for several Service Projects in former eastern bloc countries in Europe, and also in Germany, that we organized for teens of US military in Europe of 500 - 800 students and adults. He brought friends to create a band - all incredible musicians and wonderful to work with. Our students loved John! John's music is heartfelt and authentic from a life well lived and he is supported by a loving and talented family.

About
I’m a songwriter, musician, artist/painter, and published author. I grew up in the Gold Country of California and spent over a decade in the Midwest. I play coffee shops, bars, pubs, weddings, funerals, private parties . . . you name it. I can also be hired to show up at someone's work and sing them a surprise birthday song. I also write original songs for special occasions.
My styles range from singer-songwriter to pop Americana with a blues flair. I often write while camping in my Airstream or drinking whiskey around a fire pit. My iPhone is packed with melodies and riffs that may or may not become the next piece of my soul that I bare to whomever will listen. I have a style that is somewhere between Tom Petty and The Muppets.
You’ll find me telling normal, everyday, human song stories in bars, pubs, and coffee shops multiple times a month—songs about things like brokenness, hurt, love, addiction, hatred, healing, fatherhood, sex, money, and joy. In these venues, my songs take on a more satirical, sarcastic, humorous, vibe as well as a deep, emotional, reflective vibe.
I’ve been greatly influenced by the songwriters of the 70’s but find a kinship with the avant-garde, singer-songwriters in every generation. I’m especially attracted to songs that feel honest.
I have 8 full-length albums to my credit.
If your gig requires covers, I have a large repertoire of hits and B-sides that I often cover. Sometimes, I enjoy the occasional tweak of a rock song that I turn into a ballad or the unique presentation of a female pop-song covered by a guy with a huge beard.
