What to Expect
As a musician, I deeply LOVE what I do, so I feel very excited and positive when I get to share it. My RHYTHM has been made from all the various influences in New York. My goal is to create smiles, and engage people in dance and enjoyment.
As a life-long business manager, I pride myself on clarity, listening, and keeping my word. Diligent and serious about timing, details, honesty, and a positive attitude. I serve people by performing for them, and also get them to play my drum, which creates a candid, real moment of joy. Experiences in nightclubs, state facilities, schools, etc., has equipped me with deep patience, which is necessary to navigate human interactions and collaborations. I maintain that patience and focus, I lift my energy to lift others, and I enjoy being kind and courteous.
About
jojo is a student of music & art for 30+ years, focusing on drums and percussion. He composes music, and creates live sound performances. jojo accompanies live dance and DJ performances in nightclubs, solo dancers/ensembles, live bands, and cabaret acts, and also performs as DJ featuring live percussion.
jojo works as a Music Educator and Drum Accompanist in youth classes and schools, as well as at guest residencies and community events. He also teaches a music program for incarcerated youth and actively coordinates at NYS juvenile residence facilities.
Studied African and Afro-Cuban music at University of North Texas.
Studied djembe with Moussa Traore in Mali, West Africa.
Additional Booking Notes
Drum Performances can be with or without drum microphone, depending on venue size and sound goal.
If the event includes audience interaction, I can use a drum that can be played by guests.
Sound Performances include electronic instruments, and require access to an electrical outlet.
Sound equipment/speakers/PA system are not included, but are available.

Services Offered
Set List
Can perform solo, accompanying DJ, or curating songs in a Sound Performance setup with a sampler/DJ mixer and drum.
Services range from one song, with or without backing music, to all original sets, or DJ/dance accompaniment.
Sound/style ranges from African-inspired rhythms to drum set, jazz to rock, hip-hop to soca, improvisation and ambient sound explorations, as performed in museums, modern dance performances, and art galleries.

Setup Requirements
If microphone is necessary, I bring my wireless drum mic and receiver, to be plugged into the venue/DJ's sound mixer.
Sound performances contain electronic instruments and require an electrical outlet.
Drum performances are mobile with a drum strap, or can be seated.
