What does Juba Lee mean when he says he is "more than a rapper"? He means that while he wants to have you moving your body to the music and having a good time, it's even more important to him to touch your heart with something lasting. Juba Lee’s story is one of redemption and freedom. His music has influences from every region in the U.S. because he's actually lived for a time in all of them. Juba Lee grew up in Ohio (the Midwest), California (the West Coast), New York (the East Coast) and Louisiana (the Dirty South). He's been from Morehouse College to Yale University, from the blocks of Brooklyn to Georgia State Prison. He knows what it is to make grave mistakes. He knows what it is to be counted out and looked over. And he knows what it is to rise again. Juba Lee has arisen from his darkness like a man on fire, aflame with the ambition to give raw truth and hope to everybody...and he has a gift to have us all getting down while he's doing it. From his own experiences he knows how important it is to be encouraged and to believe. His music is real because his stories are true. Juba Lee currently lives in Lakewood Heights, Atlanta (recently ranked as America’s 9th most dangerous neighborhood) with his beautiful wife and his young son, where he focuses on being involved, being present, and being a friend to the youth and people there. Because of his own experiences and strong relationship with Jesus Christ he is passionate about the injustices in America and the oppression present in America’s inner cities. His music speaks of how the people in our communities are being taken advantage of and how our culture is killing us; about the death, the baby mamas, the poverty, the curses and the cruelty; about love and life and doing better. Here’s someone who is taking a stand and pleading with our community and our world to wake up. He unswervingly believes that God’s ways and love are the answer to people’s suffering and this is what fuels his music and his actions.
This rapper/warrior is setting up to release his first album, Hello World, in September of 2013. The Hello World EP, a sampler of the upcoming album, is out now and available on this site. He has performed and rocked at festivals, youth centers, churches, colleges and clubs. His music is widespread on the internet (Facebook, Reverbnation, Soundcloud, Bandcamp) and has also been played on the radio. Juba Lee has recorded and promoted all of his music independently. He faithfully believes in his music and his purpose and he knows that this is only the beginning. Life can sometimes be overwhelming; it's nice to be able to enjoy some good music and feel like you can win after you turn it off.
