Influences & Inspiration
Our locomotive is designed to look like the "Jupiter", a 4-4-0 steam locomotive present at the Golden Spike Ceremony commemorating the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.
The 4-4-0 American-Class steamer was the most common locomotive in America during the late 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. More than 25,000 were produced and they are credited with connecting the eastern and western United States. This class of locomotive handled both freight and passenger trains and it’s use was so universal that it became known as the “American Standard” or simply “American”. The Jupiter was manufactured in 1868 by the Schenectady Locomotive Works of New York. It wears the paint scheme of the Central Pacific “American” that was present for the golden spike ceremony joining the Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Point, Utah Territory, on May 10, 1869. The Jupiter Express is modeled after this locomotive.
