Justin Jones, better known as JJ, was raised in Northeast Texas in Sulphur Springs. This is where he began honing his craft, as the front man and rhythm guitarist of the beloved “Barefoot Texans”.
At a young age, he would often practice singing into a coffee can, as a make-shift monitor, in order to learn how to match pitch. As he progressed, he would sneak off to the barn and slip a 5-gallon bucket over his head while he practiced mastering pitch and playing acoustic guitar.
His sound heavily draws influence from both sides of the Red River. From Texas country moguls Hayes Carll, Chris Knight and Rodney Crowell to Red Dirt legends like Ray Wyile Hubbard, Jason Boland and Stoney Larue. Justin’s captivating vocals, dynamic tone, and an eccentric setlist are sure to attract and keep any crowd. He offers a unique blend of old and new Texas country, Red Dirt and original material.
He has won several singer/ songwriter awards. “Pickin’ in the Pines’ hosted by Troy Miller (2009) and Larry Joe Taylor’s songwriter contest at Poodies Hilltop Roadhouse. Of these accomplishments, he found himself on stage with Evan Felker, lead singer of Turnpike Troubadours, in a songwriter swap.
JJ hit the road as a traveling Welder in pursuit of a career. He continued writing and performing in his spare time. His first job landed him in Las Vegas, NV where he cowrote one of his fan favorites, Town of Alone, with Chris Heers. From there, he headed back to Texas to the “Live Music Capital” to persist in his career as a musician. Since then, construction work has taken him to Hawaii, Georgia, Utah and lastly Idaho where he fell in love with the mountains and area. He continued working full time and playing music until November 2021 when his son, Jasper, was born and he decided to take a leap of faith and pursue his career as a full-time musician. Since then he has made a splash in the Northwest music scene sharing the stage with popular acts such as Jeff Crosby, Jesse Dayne & The Sagebrush Drifters, Good Time Charlie and more. He is currently performing in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Utah and is hoping to add more venues and cities along the way!
