Spy Dance: Aerial Mission WOW, seriously impressive aerial silk act.......was the only thought on my mind as I was clapping at the end of this act! This aerial artist, Kate Hutchinson, is a crowd pleaser, the complete package, exciting and entertaining. Use caution if you have a weak heart, this act will certainly get your heart rate up. The movement of this classically trained dancer was powerful and crisp but the real excitement came from her precision choreography of simple moves to a suspenseful 007 theme song 'Bond on Bond'; by an all female classical crossover string quartet called Bond. From the initial leap and floor roll to the final drop on the silk, this act takes you for a suspenseful ride somewhere between a 007 secret mission and a mission impossible assignment. Although her moves (silk wraps, rolls, climbs and drops) were simple, she had the fluidity of a Tai Chi master. The unique feature that sets this artist apart from others was the embedded spy story. Her choreographed arm and hand movements (shooting a gun, swimming, etc) playing on the spy motif further enhanced the storyline, pulling the audience deeper into the act. One should take note of the use of dynamic movement tempo to further the suspense, perfectly layering moves to the rhythm, which enhanced the viewer’s experience. This formally trained dancer, aerialist and choreographer certainly accomplished her mission of creating a wonderful and entertaining act and achieved her objective of dazzling the audience. I am hoping to see more work from this artist.
