About
As a strategic communications consultant, I help leaders take responsibility for being understood. My passion is to blend the tools of social entrepreneurship with leadership coaching to help you transform your visionary ideas into profitable ventures that benefit your community.
I offer clients a unique expertise with over 20 years experience as an entrepreneur, speaker, team builder and adviser. My role is to activate your inner leader and empower you with tools to excel by combining the ancient art of business ownership with the modern art of leadership coaching so you can live the life you deserve.
Many people endure what is called the “second shift.” You come from work and have a full day’s work ahead of you at home. You feel stuck, often having to choose between work and family. Imagine a world where you have more choices about who you are with and how you spend your time. When you live your best life, you have a more significant impact in the lives of those around you.
I draw from my own experience in dealing with setbacks.
I didn’t have a lot as a child. In fact, I have many memories of watching my mom work hard to give us the support we needed. At a young age, Mom taught me the value of hard work. I learned to be resourceful and responsible while also having fun, dancing, and playing music.
Later in life, a car accident taught me more.
A traumatic brain injury changed my perspective on life. During that time, I learned the power of mentorship and that working harder doesn’t necessarily solve problems. Instead of working harder, I learned to work smarter. When you don’t know what tomorrow is going to look like, you can’t take anything for granted.
I came to know my survival mechanism as a creative life force. I got a chance to become friendly with it as I regained cognitive functioning and relearned basic life skills. I didn’t surrender to my circumstance. The lesson from this experience:
Our greatest challenges make us more resilient. For me to learn how to have it all, I had to lose it all first. Your mess becomes your message. My message to you is: you got this.
Are you in a sink or swim situation in your life? I can show you how to surf the wave to reclaim new freedom of time and money by running your own business. Your circumstance is not impossible. It’s merely limiting, and therefore challenging. I will walk alongside you as you emerge and engage your challenge to find success.
I will guide you in a process to get intimate with your creative spark, so no matter how you feel stuck in your life, you have that creative harness that becomes a friend that you can call upon. You are destined for greatness.
I hold a B.A. in Cross-Cultural Communication from The Evergreen State College, an interdisciplinary MA.Ed. in Education from Antioch University, a Ph.D. in Leadership from Gonzaga University, a graduate certificate in Education, Environment & Community from The University of Washington and a certificate in The Age of Sustainable Development from Columbia University.
I am a formally trained dancer, actor, and musician, including 18 years of experience as a vocalist, didjeridoo player, yoga/ meditation practitioner, and hand drummer. I have lived and worked for months at a time in Thailand, Guam, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Belize. I am an AmeriCorps Award Recipient for her work with Seattle Public Schools.
I left my job as a college professor to dedicate myself full-time to activating leaders and empowering communities. Drawing on my background in the arts, education, leadership, and international experience, I coach emerging leaders like you to reach your goals for social entrepreneurship, resilience, inclusion, and engaged citizenship.
