Kendall Spencer is a high achiever on and off the fields of play. During his athletic track and field career for the University of New Mexico he earned one of the schools first National Championship titles and still holds current records today! This led to success at the Olympic trials as well as selection to his first National Team in which only 2 athletes in the country were selected. Kendall was instrumental in creating and facilitating a supportive atmosphere for student-athletes at the University and in the Mountain West Conference.
Kendall’s work ethic on the track translates to his successes academically as he pursued more involvement within the structure of college athletics. As a Junior, Kendall became Chair of the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee through which he was able to create and evaluate policy that contributed to supportive services and positive experience for hundreds of thousands of student-athletes. His achievements led to a recommendation for him to be placed on the Board of Directors and as the first and only student board member, he serves with Presidents, Athletic Directors and Athletic Conferences to protect, as well as ensure the triumph of college athletics. Serving as a NCAA board member has led to the prosperity of Athletic Departments across the country. Kendall was able to do all of this while leading many academic endeavors and organizing events in the community.
Kendall Spencer is a tremendous public speaker and his energy on stage is contagious. Understanding that not everyone is or was an elite athlete, Kendall can take those experiences and inspire people from all walks of life. He is continuing to train for the Olympics and is a current law student at Georgetown University. He hopes to continue his work in creating policy that translates to a positive impact on society.
Seeing his family struggle because of a lack of educational opportunity drives Kendall forward. As a first generation college graduate, neither of his parents pursued higher education and he wasn’t an athletic prodigy out of high school. A debilitating injury led to his inability to compete the first two years of undergraduate career and at for a period of time was not receiving any athletic scholarships. Through hard work and perseverance he climbed from darkness to win a National Title and graduate with honors. Kendall’s belief is that student-athletes have so much more to offer than just their athletic ability. Kendall’s ambition is to illustrate that what he does on the field is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the human potential. Inspiring others through public speaking is the only the beginning of his journey.
