I sing the music of Memoryville, especially the country classics and 50’s rock and rockabilly numbers that people recognize and sing along with or sometimes “chair dance” to. I field a lot of requests, do a few original songs, and play a few fiddle tunes. I like to keep the music flowing and the energy up. However, when the venue or setting calls for quieter, background music, I can accommodate. I often include a couple of country gospel numbers, a Cajun song or two, a few originals and an occasional novelty song such as, “A Boy Named Sue,” or “Lord, It’s Hard to be Humble”.
Kent was such a great entertainer! He played and sang wonderful country songs from Willie to Merle to Johnny Cash to Elvis!!
Everyone at our event enjoyed his talent and personality!!
Response from Kent Gill, with Music from Memoryville:
Thank you Ms. Pam Parsons for the nice review! I had a great time and enjoyed meeting you and celebrating Brenda, the birthday girl, and playing music for all the gracious attendees! Thanks again, Kent

I do a solo acoustic act, singing and accompanying myself on guitar. Most of the songs I sing are the country classics, along with some 50’s rock and rockabilly numbers that people recognize and sing along with or sometimes “chair dance” to. I field a lot of requests, include a few original songs, and for a change of pace, I play some fiddle tunes. I like to keep the music flowing and the energy up. However, when the venue or setting calls for quieter, background music, I can accommodate. At most performances, I include a couple of country gospel numbers, a Cajun song or two, a few originals and an occasional novelty song (such as, “A Boy Named Sue,” or “Lord, It’s Hard to be Humble”). I enjoy interacting with the audience and talking with folks when on break. I have a fine Bose sound system that accommodates a room of up to about 300 people and is fairly quick and easy to set up and take down. I have recordings and product for sale when the situation permits. My performances most often include songs made popular by the following artists: Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Roger Miller, Waylon Jennings, George Strait, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Rick Nelson, Dean Martin, Jim Reeves, Johnny Horton, Buck Owens, and the list goes on.
I have been singing and playing guitar since my youth. When I graduated high school, I headed north for Shreveport, Louisiana wanting to get into the music business. And within a few months I landed a job playing guitar with up and coming country singer, David Houston. With him, I toured the U.S., Canada, England, and Norway playing our music for several years. A special highlight for me began about four months after graduating from high school after I started working with David. During that time, I was privileged to accompany him on guitar when he would do guest performances on the Grand Ol’ Opry.
Over the years, in addition to doing my solo acoustic show, I have performed with country bands, country rock bands, a bluegrass band, and I currently perform with a 50’s rock band.
In Late 2018, I released an album entitled Let Not these Songs be Wasted, which was a collection of 10 of original songs. Several of these songs achieved high levels on some of the independent charts. In early 2021, I released a gospel album entitled, God's Got Everything Under Control, consisting mostly of original songs.
I grew up on a farm in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana and I've been singing and writing songs virtually all my life. My musical influences vary, but lean heavily toward Classic Country, with a touch of Rockabilly, Gospel, and a measure of Cajun.
I play both guitar and fiddle and I love to entertain. I'm happiest performing the songs that have stood the test of time.
For most small venues, I am self contained with a sound system that is fairly quick and easy to set up and take down. I do appreciate lighting, but if need be, I can provide my own. In larger venues, I would need to use the venue's sound system, although I do have adequate microphones and instruments.
The following is more of a sampling, as I do a lot of other songs as well.

I have so many influences, including the traditional hymns sung at church, and the country and rockabilly songs on the radio when I was a kid. I grew up in Louisiana close to Cajun Country and would listen to the radio stations out of Lake Charles and Lafayette with the Cajun performances. I used to watch Rusty and Doug Kershaw on a Lake Charles television station before they became famous. Following is a listing of some of the specific singing artists who influenced me: Jimmy Rodgers, Hank Williams, Hank Snow, Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton, Doug Kershaw, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, George Jones, Willie Nelson, and the list goes on. My guitar influences include Luther Perkins (guitar with Johnny Cash), Tommy Tomlinson (guitar with Johnny Horton), and James Burton (guitar with Rick Nelson, and later with Elvis, and many others).
