Smooth vocals, soulful music, contemporary groove...international recording artist and songwriter Kenya is a soul and jazz artist whose current album My Own Skin (2015, Expansion Records - Europe & KenyaMJ Music Productions - US) charted at #1 on the UK Soul Chart for four consecutive weeks. In the States, two singles from the album, "Be Here" feat. Kloud 9 and "Let Me", reached Top 40 on the R&B Billboard Chart, while the title track "My Own Skin" and “Be Here” (Smooth Jazz Mix) are in radio rotation on several smooth jazz radio stations. Based in Chicago, Kenya is the 2014 recipient of the Black Women in Jazz "Best Black Female 'Rising Star' Jazz Artist" award and has opened for recording & Grammy award winning artists Lalah Hathaway, Rachelle Ferrell, and Mint Condition's Stokley Williams. Performing at such international venues as House of Blues in Chicago, Blues Alley in D.C., and Jazz Cafe in London to name a few, Kenya delights diverse crowds with her melodic tone, engaging stage presence and a dynamic performance that leaves audiences wanting more.
In addition to performing, Kenya is the founder & owner of Creating Crimson, an artist development service that provides coaching to independent and developing artists as well as workshops, showcases, & other networking opportunities for musicians. While she is fairly new to the national and international music scene, Kenya's staying power in the indie soul and smooth jazz music world is evident.
