Khalida (Kim) began her dance training at the age of 5, taking ballet with the Yvette Dance Studio of the Performing Arts in New Jersey. She added jazz and tap to her repertoire before moving to Tennessee at age eleven. She continued her studies at the Paula Duff School of Dance from ages 11 to 18 under Paula Duff and Amy Card-Lillios. She has performed numerous times in the Nutcracker and Cinderella with the Chattanooga Ballet Company at the Tivoli Theater in Chattanooga, TN. Workshops through Ballet Tennessee and the Princeton Ballet Company were attended regularly to complement her training. After time away to make a family and a career, Khalida fell in love with the art of belly dance under the direction of Jules Downum of Urban Tribal and Andrea Perkins of Dandasha Dance Company at Zanzibar Dance Studio in May of 2006. Khalida has also taken various workshops and trainings with Zoe Jakes, Mira Betz, Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Onca of the Mesmer Society, Ariellah, Donna Mejia, Heather Stants of Urban Tribal, Princess Farhana, August Hoerr of the Mesmer Society, Tobias Roberson, Lola van Ella, Amberetta, and Lauryn Elise and Stacy Nolan of Mirabai Bellydance. She has plans to expand her knowledge of the art form she loves through further workshop and training opportunities as available. Most recently, Kim has been studying Raqs Sharki with Mary Gaston of Learn2Bellydance.
Kim fell in love with the spirituality and peacefulness of yoga in 2008 as a complement to her bellydance training. She became a Certified Vinyasa Instructor through the Asheville Yoga Center under Stephanie Keach in 2010. She plans to continue her yoga training through AYC in the future.
Music provided by performer in the form of a CD, iPod, or Jump Drive. Please have a safe and adequate space available to performer for costume changes. Please no concrete flooring.
