I am a Spoken Word Artist, National Poetry Slam Champion, Published Author of "As the Flow Goes", Playwright for "Finding My Flow" and Director of web-series "Going with the Flow". I have dedicated the last 9 years of my life to poetry and have traveled across the country bringing laughter and insight to many stages. In 2019 I was awarded the Poet of Influence Award by my hometown and presented my one woman stage play with Boom Fest and Nuyorican Theatre Fest. I've been nominated for Queen City Awards Poetry in Motion for three consecutive years. I also facilitate poetry workshops and speak at various schools and colleges across the country.
Kia Flow's services were engaged to create and perform a spoken word piece in celebration of Black History Month 22’. The message of her poem, to drive awareness to healthcare disparities in dentistry impacting the Black community was commissioned by the Dentsply Sirona BOLD employee resource group. Kia was able to capture not only disparities in dentistry but the healthcare system overall. She was absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
Response from Kia Flow:
Thank you for this wonderful review and for allowing me to create a much needed poem. I hope they hear us.
Kia Flow had been as real as it gets from the beginning. She is authentic, true and passionate in her poetry and it shows. She has the unique ability to simultaneously be witty & charismatic yet give the hard truth and come with the real!
Although small in stature, Kia Flow sticks out like a candlelights flicker in darkness. Her proud, yet deliberate, personality is apparent when she steps to the microphone. She repeatedly forces her fellow poets to take notice in competition. I particularly appreciate the rawness of her subject matter and also the delivery of her flow. (Pun intended.) Kia’s performances will take you on a journey through her life and her experiences that will cause you to chuckle at the comedy of it. At the same time you will appreciate the seriousness of what she’s attempting to express. Kia Flow is a giant amongst the poetic community. A great host for any event. I will book her without pause.
I requested Kia Flow to perform a piece that I call 'Harvest.' She may have titled it different. The cool audience quickly warmed to her words and her delivery. She is an awesome talent. Asses the room, and delivers the right piece(s) for her listeners. I am definitely a new fan.
Response from Kia Flow:
Thank you so much! I'm honored to have been a part of.
I organize the biggest urban art show in Charlotte and on 9/22/17 Kia Flow clearly had the performance of the night. “My hearts my amplifier and I don’t need no mic”
Response from Kia Flow:
Thank you so much for leaving my first review!

Expect to hear something you didn't quite expect. Expect to feel a way your mind hadn't taken you to yet. Expect to understand the intent behind my flow. Expect to walk a litter taller than you did before. I can't explain how I move and make others shake. I can't tell you how many times I've caused peoples foundations to quake. I'm just presenting my purpose in a way for you to understand, in hopes that you too will have love for our fellow man. Expect to be perplexed and deep in thought from seeing my smile. Expect for the molasses in my voice to ignite your wild. Expect for me to enlighten and brighten the path, but more importantly expect that this pint size poet is guaranteed to make you laugh!
Nearing a decade of living, breathing and being poetry, Kia Flow continues her quest to speak her words and learn from the “ways of the world.” As a native of Jacksonville FL she admits she's no stranger to hard times and selfish mistakes. It was poetry that lifted her veil to sharpen her perspective and allow her to reflect in depth. In a short period of time Kia Flow started to make a name for herself in the local poetry community. She began exploring the world of entertainment by being provided the platform to host a local open mic What's the Word Wednesdays at the FLA Riders Club. There she was able to hone in on her improv skills and ability to bring laughter to even the smallest of crowds. After that she began to become requested for more features, benefits, mini concerts and discussion topic shows; which landed her a gig with Under Da Scope Ent as the host of Venus Versus Mars The Open Dialogue to Intimacy. The show focused on relationships and romance and was filled with controversial questions, arguments but most importantly, laughter.
Acting has always been the second nature of Ms Flow, so there was no surprise that she would get her “feet wet” in theater. She landed a role on bLackWomanDynamikReBorn written and produced by Jana Bradley. Kia Flow also began to take her works on the road making her presence known outside of Jacksonville, performing anywhere from Orlando, Miami, Tampa and Gainesville FL to St Louis MO, Mobile AL and Atlanta GA to name a few. She participated in the 2012 Savannah Urban Arts Fest and simultaneously released her EP Just Use it as a Coaster that included 5 tracks that she actually wanted you to listen to!
In 2013 Kia Flow released her mini web series Going with the Flow on YouTube. Its a humorous comedy about her and her fellow artist friends daily whimsical situations. The series was produced by ZoCode Films and directed by Kia Flow. That year she also was inducted into Black on Black Rhyme Jacksonville and she relocated to Charlotte continuing to make her name reign through the poetry community there. She was honored to be requested by Georgia ME to perform at her annual Tamika Fest in 2014 and was requested to perform for Charlotte's YWCA Stand Against Racism Rally that same year as well as 2015.
Poetry competitions peeked her interest once she moved to NC and she gives credit to the art form for sharpening her performance skills and silencing her stage fright. She's competed in Soul Sista Slam CLT and Spartanburg, Bull City Slam, Asheville NC Slam, Respect Da Mic, SlamCharlotte and Queen of the South Slam to name a few. Kia has competed at Southern Fried Poetry Slam since 2015 in Little Rock Arkansas to Fayetteville NC in 2019 always ranking in the top 40 with the exception of 2017 in Louisville KY where she ranked 14th place. She also became the first person to represent SlamCharlotte for both WOWPS (Women of the World Poetry Slam) Dallas TX, and iWPS (Individual World Poetry Slam) San Diego CA in a single season, where she also ranked in the top 40. In 2018 she and her team SlamCharlotte brought home the victory for the National Poetry Slam Competition.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! Kia also has been a radio personality on a BlogTalk including her own show Going with the Flow Radio Show. She's also a closet singer that has decided to face her fears and sings whenever she has a band or when her spirit leads her to. She wrote the closing song to her first stage play titled "I Survived" and has had the opportunity to sing background for Christopher Williams, as well as open up for Angie Stone and K Michelle.
In April of 2019 Kia Flow was awarded the Poet of Influence award by The Jax Poetry Fest. It was recognition for all of the hard work she has done in the name of poetry from her hometown Jacksonville, FL.
What's next for Kia Flow? You can find her featuring around the country and she is also promoting her book "As the Flow Goes" released in 2018 and her first one woman stage play "Finding my Flow" released in 2019 which was written, directed and performed all by her. She gives special thanks to BOOM and Nuyorican Poets Cafe for giving her the platform to share her work!
Donating her time to various college programs, youth/adult shelters/programs and facilitating poetry workshops is the way Kia chooses to give back to poetry. Besides that, there's no telling where you will find The Flow next!
I'm a one woman show and I don't require much but my pay and water, however it doesn't hurt to work with people who are personable and professional to make an event work smoothly.
I usually don't require soundcheck. Either the mic works or it doesn't, either way I can work a room.
Bars and Restaurants are typically not my ideal gig because usually the crowds are not primed to understand poetry.
Any other concerns or requirements can be discussed at the time of booking or before show time.
