Lauren Mayer is an award-winning singer/songwriter who specializes in writing and performing comedy tunes. Lauren has published five albums of her political satire and contemporary lifestyle comedy songs and is at work on "Facts Have A Well-Known Liberal Bias,” which will be released April 2018. Her most recent hit, “The Sexual Harassment Prevention Song,” has gone viral, with more than 2.7 million hits on Facebook alone. Lauren's 21-year-old son has confidentially informed her that “over 100 views is viral for old people,” making the Bay Area mom’s latest hit an all-but-unprecedented social-media feat for a Baby Boomer.
Never one to rest on her laurels, Lauren continues to post a new original topical comedy song every other week on her YouTube channel. Her songs are available for download on iTunes and (link hidden) and via CD from her online store.
Lauren began playing the piano at age 3 and discovered her love of
ABOUT LAURENcomedy songs shortly thereafter, including leading singalongs of Tom Lehrer classics at summer camp and writing parodies for her fellow members of the debate team, academic decathlon team, and math team (yes, she was a proud nerd). After performing with the singing group Proof of the Pudding and graduating from Yale University summa cum laude, Lauren spent five years in New York City singing on street corners, writing material for cabaret performers, and thoroughly confounding her mother by failing to apply for law school.
She then moved to San Francisco to meet straight men - but she actually found a few! During that time, she became a fixture in San Francisco nightclubs and piano bars, winning glowing reviews and five prestigious Bay Area Cabaret Gold awards, as well as opening for performers including Bob Sarlotte and Lorna Luft.
Lauren created and performed the one-woman show “Psycho Super Mom” and has won numerous songwriting awards, including several from the USA Songwriting Competition. Her best-selling holiday novelty song, "The Fruitcake That Ate New Jersey," at one point topped Meryl Streep's recording of "Mamma Mia" on iTunes (and was cited in an NPR episode about weird Christmas songs written by Jewish songwriters). In her spare time, she enjoys tap dancing and honing her kazoo skills.
Despite all these impressive accomplishments, Lauren's mother still doesn't understand why she didn't go to law school.
