"Ms. Maxwell has a voice to die for and makes a mockery of so many of the current crop of women 'pop' singers -it has a caressing velvet feel to it, downright sexy in an understated way,and you can hear every syllable she sings."
John M. Peters - The Borderland
"Sarah Jane is an outstanding composer and pianist who plays with pure imagination and beautiful taste." —Monty Alexander
"Lisa’s gentle, floating approach creates vistas of sound and feeling.
She doesn’t strain or emote, but gets inside each song and makes it glow."
–Michael Steinman, Jazz Lives
"Sarah is a marvelous, marvelous, marvelous jazz piano player. She is young, talented, creative and imaginative. Watch out!" —Clark Terry
Lisa Maxwell started performing as a vocalist in 1980’s at Jan Wallman’s in Greenwich Village and worked the NYC cabaret scene during the 1980s and early 1990s.
During this period she also appeared at Judy’s, Don’t Tell Mama, Mr. Sam’s, Nell’s, La Cave, Tatou, and Danny’s Skylight Room. She has produced albums, the first with George Newall and the second with Keith Ingham, and has since been appearing with many jazz greats in NYC and Westchester County.
Sarah Jane Cion was the 1st Place Winner of the internationally acclaimed 17th Annual Great American Jazz Piano Competition held in Jacksonville Florida on November 11th, 1999.
Sarah has performed with young and older jazz legends such as Clark Terry, Etta Jones, Anita O’Day, Della Griffin, Ralph Lalama, Alan Harris, Carmen Leggio, Dr. Lyn Christie, Bucky Pizzarelli, Don Braden, and many others.
Cion’s articles and transcriptions have been published in Piano Today magazine, and her book Modern Jazz Piano with playalong CD was released by Hal Leonard in March ’05. Sarah is also a contributor to the Steinway Library of Piano Music: Jazz Piano-Pieces To Grow On – sharing the roster with Bill Dobbins, Dick Hyman, Andy LaVerne and others.
We have microphones and amps and electric keyboard if necessary. If booking us with a trio or more a sound system would be preferred.
