LOOKIN BACK is a family friendly, top 40's classic rock cover band. We play the songs that everyone knows and loves. We're energetic, entertaining, and very good at what we do, because we love what we do! We provide a minimum of 90 minutes of music. A typical event is anywhere from 2 hrs to 4 hrs, with about 45-50 minutes of music and about 10 minute breaks per hour. This is a typical breakdown of the night's schedule. Sometimes we play much longer sets, with a little longer break in between...it just depends on what's going on. Our male lead singer, Brian, is an EXCELLENT master of ceremonies, with a ton of musical trivia and facts between songs to keep your crowd entertained. Dancing is encouraged! And we never have an empty dance floor!
We are happy to let you use a mic for announcements, give-aways, raffles, etc...and we can provide recorded music while we take breaks (think SPOTIFY).
We are willing to learn a few new tunes for you if given enough notice, and if they fall in our "wheelhouse". We're pretty good at figuring out new music!
We can provide a full sound system, and a full stage if needed (for an extra fee-it is a BEAST to move!). We have a small lighting system as well.
If the event is in the evening, we'd love it if you could cover our meals and drinks within reason.
If the event is more than 100 miles away, we'd love for you to cover an overnight stay for the band (this can be negotiated). We come early for you to set up and get things just right with our sound and lights (usually we like a solid 2 hours for load in), and we stay after the event is over tearing down our equipment and loading out (usually takes about an hour).
We are happy to accommodate within reason. Let's talk!
Let me introduce you to LOOKIN BACK.
Our new male lead singer is Brian Smith from The Jersey's Colorado. He's still active in this group, and it's a very fun, entertaining showmanship experience bringing covers from the likes of the Beach Boys, Frankie Vallie, Four Tops, and so many of your 4-part harmony groups. Brian has brought a great edge and personality to our band! He's a "background guru" on the music we play, so he's got a lot of fun and interesting comments between songs.
I'm Kelly Matthews, Colorado native...I've been singing my whole life, started with church and school choirs, became a worship leader, and then stepped out of my comfort zone when Steve (the founder of LOOKIN BACK) asked me to audition. I'd never sung pop music before in front of people! So, these last 11+ years have been a learning process for me, to come out of my shell, learn to MOVE (it's a lot harder than you think!), and becoming more expressive, and also learning how to use percussion instruments as well. I also play acoustic guitar, and I love performing this music that I grew up listening to!
Our lead guitarist is Ed McCulloch, also a founding member. He actually had a stroke late last year but has been overcoming the complications of it and is actually BETTER than before!
Michael Brown is our bass player (also plays lead guitar) and background vocals. This man...is loaded with talent. Many decades of performing, and also a talented luthier (he builds and repairs guitars).
Mike Dunne is our new drummer, he's been with us for one year, and is very good, very committed, and just wants to play ALL the gigs! He's from the East Coast, New York, I believe.
Lastly, Matt Jarrett, our band leader. He's like a walking encyclopedia of music, with what seems like a photographic memory for how songs should go. He plays electric guitar and keys, and background vocals. This man keeps the music rolling!
I almost forgot Stew Piper-he's our behind-the-scenes sound man (and fill in lead guitarist when Ed was out of commission). It's very nice to not have to worry about adjusting the sound from the stage!
We require standard power, nothing overtly crazy. We can pull from a standard house outlet that is not being used for other ampage such as plug in heaters or the like (they pull a LOT of power)... and not be concerned about overloading the system.
We will not set up our system in dirt. We require level, solid footing. If a stage, solid flooring or concrete is not available, we can provide a stage for an extra fee.
If the event is outdoors, we will need covering, meaning shade from the sun, protection from rain. A substantial awning is required.
We have a small lighting setup. Mostly sound-activated motion lights. We do not have spot lights or overhead lighting.
If it's an outdoor event, and it's cold, we require heat. Standing propane patio heaters work very nicely.
