M-80’s Bio
M-80 was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was brought up in different areas of Chattanooga like the Eastlake projects, the South Side and Brainerd. Protruding in the streets M-80 quickly separated himself from others. While other kids were playing basketball and bike riding, he was somewhere drawing and being creative. He soon became very fund of music looking up to artist and groups like Lil Wayne and The Cash Money Millionaires and Master P and The No Limit Soldiers. M-80 was now ready to find a voice in the game. The year was 1993, jumping into music head first he began writing songs of his own. When he was 15,his Mother and step Father purchased him a drum set for Christmas, his own personal beat machine; his mind was set. “I’m going to be a rap star” he said, as he began recording on a little beat up tape recorder he had borrowed from a neighbor. Now in high school only known by his birth name Rickey Dews Jr., he was given the
name M-80 by his close friend Monty Mitchell who said, “Rickey you go off like a fire cracker”. Just what he needed, a personal identity to become the rap star he was destined to be. Not long into his senior year of high school M-80 received recognition for his music when he presented it to a long time family friend by the name of The Infamous T. Dot. T. Dot aka T.T. Then and there was set the path to stardom which would open up many doors for his future.
M-80 recorded his first single “Full Proof” in the middle of the school year at the local studio of a Producer by the name of Two Face CapOne (currently living in Atlanta ). They quickly became close business partners. So with both of them sharing similar interests in music the foundation was set. M-80 joined Two Face, T.T. and others as they performed at local clubs like the Kaos and Club Kryptonite representing the Prolific All-Stars, as they called themselves. Briefly after the split of several members of the group M-80 ventured back into the rap game alone. Still being prolific within himself M-80 continued to write and record music. Being featured on songs from artists across the city he became known as one of Chattanooga’s most profound artist. In 2004 he and AV aka the Musical Genius (an R&B artist) performed at several spots like the Sky Box, The Vulcan and Buds Bar, where they showed crowds full of women that they were
there for them and only them. Still feeling vibrant, M-80 and T.T. hooked back up to record a 3 part series of mix tapes called “The Call it Wut U wanna Mix Tape”. The mix tapes were a success. They did what they were supposed to do for a moment, let the people hear what they had to (link hidden)ey begain calling themselves Fully Focused Ent. Loosing touch of what was at hand, in 2006, M-80 slowed down his drive for music stardom after his daughter Amauri was born. Personal issues brought him to a musical slump, which build up a lot of what music artist like to call “writers block”. Then in 2007 the slump was now a mountain. M-80 had regained focus. He began recording out of Atlanta, where he was joined by the Good Skwad Clik a local group of old friends Lil Tez (Martez Mitchell) , Mr. Proper(Quentin Williams) , Tenn-a-G(Norman Williams ),Wun(Juwan), and a few other members. The Goon Skwad Clik began performing at a local event called Roc the Mic
Sundays at Club Phoenix, which was later hosted at
Club Millennium back in 2008. They began making a name for themselves performing songs as a group which was a good look for them. M-80 still being prolific began to think outside the box and reach the women. He wrote a song called “My Power”, a very explicit song strictly for the ladies. Jokes were thrown at M-80 when he began performing the song. Remembering one in particular was “some of yall dudes are going to get ate out of house and home”. The song played fair in the hearts of the ladies, they began to request it. “Are you going to perform your song tonight”, and “please perform your song tonight”, and lets not forget “will you let M-80 perform his song so I can leave”, were only some of the things the women began to say. And at the end of each performance they say “Your performance was great”, “You did good”, “OOOOH M-80”, and then they
would chant“GOON SKWAD”.
In 2009 M-80 moved to Atlanta, working a 9-5 he gave his all selling his first CD titled From Scratch out of the trunk just to make ends meet. The Album was produced by a close friend by the name of Joe-Ka(Joseph Moore), the singing voice behind the music. M-80 began exploring his surroundings, he performed at a club in Marietta,GA, called the Meriachi where the crowd took a liking to his "My Power" song. Then shortly after that he began performing at a cafe on the campus of Morehouse College called Jasmine's, where the music was played by a live band. It was shortly after that M-80 had the opportunity to be an intern for Wacka Flocka's "Oh Let's Do it" video shoot where he ran into a Def Jam recordings talent scout Jemario Harris, where he begin as a song writer for the company. He begin meeting several producers like one of Neo's in house producers who produced a track on Lupe Fiasco's album "Lasers", Miykal Snoddy and Def Jams Aktual aka Act.
In August of 2010 M-80 moved back to Chattanooga, TN to handle personal business. He Linked up with his big brother Quan Mac(La'quan Dews),Mac P(Patrick Bell),and T Bell ( Troy) Shortly after the move back he meet Ashley Triga a Jeff Meyer promoters from RJM Promotions who took a liking of his music just by surfing the web. In 2014 M-80 moved to Kansas City where he is now in search of distribution deals, as well as major Artist deals. M-80 writes R&B, Pop, Hip-Hop, & Gospel. Hooks or full songs M-80 is ur go 2 guy 4 either u or ur artist's next hit.
