Maanas Varma, a violist from Flower Mound, Texas, has been honing his craft since the age of 11. Continuously guided by his mentor, Mr. Ronald Houston, Maanas quickly rose to the top in the TMEA All-Region and All-State competitions, consistently ranking in the top 5 throughout Texas. In 2022, he placed as a National Youngarts Finalist, one of 21 musicians out of over 8000 applicants who had the opportunity to spend a week in Miami learning with some of the brightest young musicians across the country. This past summer, at the Chamber Music Northwest Festival, Maanas had the pleasure of being taught by Nicholas Cords from the New England Conservatory and Ettore Causa from Yale’s School of Music. Additionally, he has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra since 2021 and has been able to perform at various music festivals across Europe alongside them. He has been the principal violist of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra since throughout his high-school tenure. Maanas has also played with renowned hosts Charles Yang and Peter Dugan in From the Top’s radio show and was a From the Top Learning and Media Lab Fellow, where he helped mentor groups of underrepresented musicians from the greater Los Angeles area. Maanas is now also a student of Yitzhak Schotten at the University of Michigan.
Since their founding in 2020, Maanas’ quartet, the AUN quartet ((phone number hidden)2), has received a number of masterclasses from the prize-winning Balourdet Quartet and have since won and placed in two national competitions.
