She has a very diverse set list that includes poetry for all age ranges and every occasion you can think of. She also provides services for custom pieces for special events and occasions. She is well rehearsed, as she believes it is always an honor to be asked to perform. You can always expect an energetic and thorough performance because Madame Precedent not only works very hard on the poem but the performance as well.
Madame Precedent, given name Jaila Moore, is a poet and speaker who is very passionate about unity for a better world. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and at around 13 she moved to Houston, Texas. Moving from a high crime and poverty stricken environment to one of diversity and equity exposed her to an incredible culture shock. This experience was life changing as she endured hard times but was enlightened by the beauties of mankind. She believes that people from all over the world, with so many differences are so much a like and can do amazing things together.
After finishing high school in Houston she attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. Here she joined an organization that intended to unite the campus through Music. Music has always been her first love and passion (as a consumer not a creator). This is the way God has communicated with her and where she gets much of her wisdom. The organization gave her a platform to explore performing her written poetry and eventually she became one of the curators of events that allowed musicians, poets and dancers to do the same thing.
After finishing her degree in Criminal Justice in 2019, she returned to Houston and enrolled in her graduate program for Public Administration. She also began performing in Houston while working on her Masters and soon after became a professional poet.
Madame Precedent works tirelessly to bring people together through her actions and words. She believes if she shares her stories it will incite a movement of unity. She is very proud of who she is and where she comes from and believes that everyone should be allowed to feel that way in this society. Her poems consist of stories and ideas on how to make this world better and how to heal.
Everyday she has an opportunity to change the world and her poetry has given her the greatest platform to do that. She dreams of becoming the President of the United States one day. Her stage name “Madame Precedent” is a nod to this dream. “Precedent” represents being the example and setting the tone. Each and every opportunity she has to perform is a stop on the campaign where people get to know her and what she’s about. There is much work to be done and she has begun her movement 20 years before the call to duty.
