Margot Sergent Jazz Band

I first heard Margot Sergent sing at Birdland in July, 2023 and then again in the summer of 2024, both performances were with her sextet. I’ve since heard her perform three times at Shiraz Kitchen and even in such a small setting, accompanied by only a guitar & acoustic bass, she flourished. After the first time I heard her at Shiraz Kitchen we were able to have a delightful conversation. I mentioned that I had a friend in Edison, NJ struggling with a serious health condition. Margot listened so intently that I imagined I might have been talking with her about her own next of kin. So, I figured I really should ask her the question that brought me to hear her that evening. To my surprise, after I asked her if I could book her to sing with guitar accompaniment at the send-off party for my friend with some caution to be taken, such as social distancing, specific sanitary protocols, tricky logistic, she asked but one simple question, “When?”  I presented her with the date, she checked her calendar in a wink and then said, “Yes.” I was utterly gobsmacked.
Our send-off party was just two weeks away and, when the evening arrived, once again Margot surprised us all by playing harp which she drove all the way from Brooklyn to Metuchen, to play for about a hour as our guests arrived. After a few short speeches honoring our friend, Margot then sang for 90 minutes with her guitarist & her choice of tunes were so sensitive & her delivery so tender in that stark moment. Again, I was just stunned at how she was able to read the room and perform so directly to all of us, bringing nearly everyone to love-filed tears.
I guess, after all that, you could call me a Margot Sergent super-fan. I feel she is not simply a well-seasoned jazz artist, but a Parisienne chanteuse who blends the sensitivity & feeling of her idol Edith Piaf with the swinging timing of her other idol Anita O’Day.  What a wonderful entertainer!

I hired Margot for my Mother's 90th birthday based on her social media, and that we both knew mutual friends. Her mastery of French Chansons is commanding, including her timing and musicianship. She also has excellent taste in accompanists, as the superb guitarist Paul she selected to perform. Margot manages to make this much trodden song genre sound alive and well and living in musical effervescence.

We hired Margot for a corporate private event & it was the most delightful part of the event. All the attendees loved it & it was a joy to watch her perform. Strongly recommend to anyone who wants the fantastic magic of artistry at their event!

After her performance the audience raved about her singing. Whether she's conveying Edith Piaf classics or her own compositions, Margot is a stunning and compelling presence on stage.
