I have over 40 yrs of exp as a pianist playing for Cathedrals in Boston, Chicago, Nashville, New York, Toronto. The piano/organ for wedding ceremonies, receptions, banquets, funerals and others. For Catholic to Protestant services and for many different styles including Broadway, Classical, Country, Gospel, Jazz, the oldies. When you are needing a vocalist my wife Jena Marion has over 40 years of experience as a vocalist. She won the Female Vocalist of the Year in a National competition. Per the nature of your event, we can be engaging and spirited or provide a calm and relaxing atmosphere. We enjoy formal and informal settings; it’s about you and your event.
My husband and I were married on May 20, 2023. Our music was very important to us since we didn't want a traditional ceremony. Mark Marion went above and beyond to make sure the music complimented our ceremony.
We had two violinists who played at our ceremony as well. Mark made an appointment with them to combine their talents with his. The three of them performed a wonderful prelude to our ceremony. Many of the songs we chose, but Mark and the violinists added their personal touches which made it outstanding.
As part of our ceremony, my husband and I wanted to sing a song to each other as a duet. However, the song we chose "Keeper of the Stars" needed a few changes with the wording which meant we could not use a CD. Mark worked with us so we could get used to the piano accompaniment, instead of the CD we had been using. We were still very nervous. Mark put our minds at ease. He told us "you start singing, and if you get lost with the music or the words it is nothing to worry about -- I will find you". And that is exactly what he did.
At one point we both forgot the words. Mark continued to play the song. When we figured out the words and where in the song we were, we started singing as though there were no hiccups. Mark was right there with the accompaniment adding to the song.
He knows his music. He is flexible and will help you plan your ceremony or, more importantly, help you find the songs you want to make your event memorable.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with Mark Marion since April 2021, and I can confidently say he’s one of the finest pianists I’ve encountered. His exceptional sight-reading skills are truly remarkable, allowing him to tackle even the most complex pieces with ease and precision. It's always impressive to watch him seamlessly interpret new music without missing a beat—literally!
Beyond his talent, Mark is incredibly reliable. Whether for rehearsals, performances, or last-minute requests, he shows up prepared, punctual, and ready to deliver. One of the most valuable things he brings to any project is his willingness to go the extra mile, including punching out parts for the choir when needed. You can count on him to provide top-quality musicianship without any stress or drama.
Personality-wise, Mark is a joy to work with. He’s very easygoing, making collaboration smooth and enjoyable. Despite his professionalism, there’s no ego attached—just a genuine love for music and a willingness to work as part of a team.
On stage, Mark maintains a professional presence, letting his music speak for itself. His focus and skill are evident, and the audience always realizes his professionalism.
In short, Mark Marion is an outstanding pianist, and it’s a privilege to know him. If you ever have the chance to hear him play or work alongside him, consider yourself fortunate.
I highly recommend Mark if you are looking for a great piano player. In fact I have him come in 2x month to entertain my resident and he is always on time, stays the full amount of time, and gives a great performance. My Assisted Living residents look forward to hearing him play!
