A piano player with nearly 50 years of experience! I play standards, jazz- and new age-based originals, and have gig experience dating back to when I was 7 and had to follow a bagpipe corps (long story.) I have played in groups, big bands, for singers, musicals, can sight-read and play by ear. I like to play!!
I am currently the accompanist for Hastings Area Schools. I have played their musicals for 15 straight years.
We at Grand Brook Memory Care are incredibly thankful for the beautiful performance.
Mark showed up on time, and was congenial and straight-forward. I was happy he could fill in under very short notice, and his playing received many compliments. I would use him again.
Response from Mark Ramsey Piano:
Thank you Russell! Appreciate it.
Mark has been amazing to work with. We were a 2x COVID reschedule, and he was incredibly flexible and understanding. He even scoped out our venue ahead of time to find an optimal space to set up. The only thing I regret was not having the time to stop by and thank him in person on the day of the wedding. I heard nothing but positives about Mark’s playing, and I’d give him 10 stars if I could. Pretty sure he undercharges for his services, which are superb. I absolutely recommend him to anyone looking to add something unique to their wedding.
Response from Mark Ramsey Piano:
Thank you so much for this review, Courtney! Just a wonderful wedding. I wish you many years of happiness! It was a true pleasure.
Where do I even begin? Our wedding ceremony wouldn't have been complete without Mark! He's so genuine and friendly and one of the easiest to coordinate with. He played so, so, sooo beautifully and went out of his way to be with us at rehearsal too. Thank you, Mark!
Response from Mark Ramsey Piano:
Thank you so much! I wish you many decades of happiness.
Mark did a great job at our wedding and was very friendly and professional! He played beautifully and we would recommend him for other events!
Although I was not able to hear much of the set (except for the few moments the bridal party was being shuffled in to the hotel) we had several guests comment on the wonderful piano that accompanied our wedding cocktail hour. Thank you so much for helping make our day just that much more perfect!
Response from Mark Ramsey Piano:
Chelsea,
Thanks so much! I wish you a lifetime of happiness.
Mark
We had Mark play during our wedding ceremony, it was the perfect touch and he played very well. We had lots of compliments from our guests as well. Highly recommend him, very talented and easy to work with.
I found Mark Ramsey through GigSalad, and he was delightful to work with. He responded quickly to questions and provided a quote with details of exactly what to expect.
He attended the rehearsal and provided prelude and postlude music at the ceremony, and played the specific pieces I asked for beautifully.
Mark was very friendly and brought a calming presence to the stage. I would highly recommend him as a wedding pianist!
Response from Mark Ramsey Piano:
Thanks Joy!
Mark was such a pleasure to work with. He was very responsive to msgs and questions. He is very organized and has a SoundCloud so you can hear his piano skills prior to booking. He is proactive about looking for sheet music and reaching out to my violinist friend to collaborate with. I only booked him 1 week before our wedding ceremony and he was able to execute the non-traditional songs beautifully. I would highly recommend Mark if you are looking for a pianist!
We hired Mark Ramsey to play for a Holiday Party in our home. Well over 50 people attended and none of use were disappointed in the talent of Mark. He came with a wonderfully diverse repertoire of music that set a festive mood. He certainly displayed his talent as he played happily for 3 straight hours. We will definitely both recommend and use him again.
Response from Mark Ramsey Piano:
Thank you so much for the kind review! Happy Christmas, and please call on me for next year!
Mark did a great job helping us to create a wedding ceremony that was unique to us. We picked untraditional wedding music and Mark was able to get sheet music or transcibe the music himself. Mark was very flexible and quick to respond to all communications. He played piano beautifully and came to the rehearsal which helped to put my mind at ease knowing that he knew how the ceremony would flow. I would highly reccomend him to anyone looking for a pianist!
Response from Mark Ramsey Piano:
Casie, thank you for this wonderful review! My main hope is that you and your husband have many years' happiness! Blessings on you.

Hi, my name is Mark Ramsey. I'm a pianist from Hastings, Michigan.
I have played professionally for over 30 years, on and off, have classical training, and can play by ear as well. I have been playing for Hastings/Thornapple Kellogg High School musicals for the past 10 years, and have played shows with the Grand Rapids Civic, the Thornapple Players (Hastings), The Revue (Nashville-Vertmontville), and the Caledonia Community Players. In the past I have worked as sound designer/arranger/MIDI specialist in studios, and now compose mostly in Reason. I do play with a couple of local jazz groups: the Swingtet Jazz group from Battle Creek, and the Thornapple Jazz Orchestra in Hastings. In essence, I've gigged for a long time in numerous situations, have a good ear, take directions well, and enjoy playing shows so much sometimes it hurts.
Here is a listing of shows I've been rehearsal pianist, pit pianist, musical director or secondary keyboardist:
42nd Street
Annie Get Your Gun
Anything Goes
Beauty & the Beast
Bye Bye Birdie
Changing Minds
Crazy For You
Footloose (x2)
Frankenstein 1930 (incidental music)
Guys 'n' Dolls (x3)
Hairspray
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (x2)
Into the Woods
Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat
Little Shop of Horrors
Music Man
Nunsense
Oliver
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Suessical
The Christmas Story (improvisational)
Urinetown
White Christmas
Wiley & the Hairy Man (improvisational)
Wizard of Oz
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
I own & use a Nord Stage 2, which is a beautiful instrument for piano, Hammond organ and sample playback. I also have a Yamaha SY77 for older synth sounds.
If you are interested at all, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Mark Ramsey
