I am a singer pianist based in Montreal, Canada. I have over 15 years of stage experience working as a soloist, duo, and in a trio format (piano, bass, drums/percussion). I've played in Singapore, many different venues, Festivals, lounge, restaurant, cocktails, private market and on you can hear my work on many different albums over the years.
I incorporate several styles of music into any given song (Original pop songs, International pop songs, jazz standards, Movie’s thème, French Music, Quebec’s music). I'll just say that whatever the event calls for I play it. My presentation and style is my own, but I do reference pop, lounge, jazzy music as Diana Krall, Tori Amos, Norah Jones, Sade, Sarah McLachlan, etc and play the long lasting songs of the greats and the jazz idiom.
Willing to go to where the work is. Please review my live music samples.
MÉLANIE GUAY has been passionate about music her whole life. She took her very first piano lesson at the age of 5, and went on to complete a bachelor degree in popular music. Today, she is living her dream as a singer-songwriter. She received two grants from the Conseil des arts du Québec to write her albums, and released Palais d’hélium in 2011 under the Disques Passeport label to much critical acclaim and now working on a second album. Competing with her original material, Mélanie won the grand prize at the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée in 2008.
Mélanie’s eagerness to take on creative challenges led to a Prix Gémeaux nomination for best music documentary for her work on Yin-Yang. She has collaborated on albums with Québec artists Diane Dufresne, Annie Brocoli, Renée Martel, Richard Séguin, Luc de la Rochelière and Jonas. She has appeared as a singer-pianist on radio and television, including appearances on the Broco Show à Radio- Canada and in a number of commercials for Espace Musique.
Mélanie has a growing list of TV credits, conducting orchestras and creating theme music for well- known series in Québec and abroad, such as Juste pour Rire en direct, Les grandes entrevues, Chasse à l’homme, Septième round, Les Sosies débarquent, Palmarès and Studio beauté de Lise Watier. She has also worked on reality shows Pour le meilleur et pour le pire and Loft Story II, commercials and short films.
Mélanie has performed extensively in Québec and abroad (Singapour). She has been featured at a number of festivals (Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Festival Les Rythmes Tremblant, Saint-Jean Baptiste, Parc des Rapides, DIX30, La ChantEauFête de Saint-Siméon, Montréal’s Vue sur la Relève), and indoor venues (Club soda, Théâtre le Petit Champlain, la Maison de la culture Maisonneuve, Casino du Lac Leamy).
Mélanie shows no signs of slowing down. She continues to share her unique perspective on life, her quest for happiness and self-affirmation with audiences and in the press. She is hard at work on her next albums these days, arranging and writing songs for other famous artists in Quebec.
