Response from Michelle Packman:
It is always a pleasure to work with you, Kristina!
We are lovers of classical music and opera and suggested pieces from that repertoire. Our cellist Michelle and her pianist Tomas took on the challenge and came well rehearsed. They delivered a wonderful hour of music for our wedding anniversary including opera by Puccini, Massenet, and Philp Glass, as well as music by Arvo Part, and from movies. Plus their take on Stand By Me. 11 pieces each delivered by an introduction - like being at a gourmet dinner. Such a nice duo to converse with. What a treat to have them to ourselves. Highly recommended. Next time we may add some strings, singers as well as a choir with the help of magic from Tomas' lap top.

We booked Michelle to surprise my Mother in Law for her Birthday and it could not have been a more perfect evening. She played beautifully and played a little trivia with us to see if we knew the pieces she was playing. We all had one of the best evenings we’ve had in a long time. She put a smile on my Mother in Laws face that is ever lasting. We will definitely be booking Michelle in the future. We highly recommend her.

Michelle played live for my wedding. Not only was she extremely helpful with my song selection, recommendations, and in helping me make my vision come to life, she's incredibly talented! She and her talented pianist had everyone moved to tears! Not only that, but the property AND the weather were extremely inconvenient and chaotic! The property owner demanded every attendee ride up in a shuttle, Michelle was extremely sweet and understanding with that. She came way earlier just to make sure she and her pianist were on time. The weather was insane.... 60 mph winds, and freezing! She and the pianist never wavered. listening to and watching them, you would never know it wasn't perfect out side. I am so extremely grateful to Michelle, her recommendations, patience, and kindness! I highly recommend Michelle. She is amazing :) and you will be so happy! Thank you for making my day so special amidst all of the chaos.
Michelle spent an hour with us at a birthday party. We were lucky in that the room she played in had wooden floors and a high ceiling, so the sound was extraordinary. She played a great selection of classical music, plus she played "Imagine" which is one of my favorite songs. We will happily hire her again.

Michelle and her associate were punctual, professional and sounded fantastic. They easily accommodated the songs we wanted played during our ceremony and it was divine to walk down the aisle to live music. My husband and I were extremely impressed and so thankful that we didn’t have to worry about the music. We would love to hire them again. Bravo!

Thanks so much for having us there, Krista, and big congratulations!
Michelle was responsive from the first outreach. We knocked out quickly the details and it was easy to get set-up. Michelle arrived on time, set-up and played absolutely beautifully. The celebratory dinner certainly would not have been the same without Michelle's performance.

Michelle and her pianist partner provided a tear-jerking performance as a surprise for a birthday.

Michelle played beautifully, it was absolutely breathtaking, she played cello with a piano accompaniment and it was just so beautiful, there are no other words to describe. We have her booked for our wedding next year and I cannot be more thrilled that we have found her.
Rave reviews from our guests. Michelle played contemporary songs (compare to Vitamin String Quartet). People loved it!

Response from Michelle Packman:
Thanks so much, Pam, for having me at your gala. I am happy I could play for all of the wonderful people there, you guys do amazing work!
Michele provided both solo and ensemble playing for an ABBAESQUE pop tune I was recording. Unlike some string players she had an excellent groove to her performance. She took direction well and showed excellent sight reading skills which enabled me to complete the session with her on schedule and leave minimal clean up work for for. BRAVO Michele!

Michelle is so very talented and easy to work with. She was very accommodating to our vision and played the most beautiful music for our guests to enjoy during their meal. I would definitely work with her again in the future!
Beautiful music! Perfectly adapted to my guests—Senators, Ambassador, Navy Captains, and then there were my family members with kazoos. Gracefully done!

This review is long over due but we hired Michelle to play at our wedding last year. When we were discussing hiring musicians for our wedding, I initially I thought I wanted a trio. I quickly changed my mind when I heard her play. I almost want to get married again just to hire her to play for us once more. Our guests were thoroughly impressed with her presence and it was a beautiful addition to our wedding. Thank you again for making our wedding so special!

We had Michelle perform a cello part in a music video for one of our clients. She was extremely flexible and easy to work with. She was able to learn the part in a very quick amount of time and performed beautify. I would highly recommend Michelle!

What to Expect
Special perks: Booking with Michelle includes the option to have a COMPLIMENTARY AUDIO GUESTBOOK, courtesy of After the Beep, at your ceremony and cocktail reception. It also includes complimentary backing tracks if a live accompanist is out of your budget.
Michelle is flexible and willing to accommodate anything that isn't listed below. This will give you an idea of a typical gig:
Musicians typically arrive 30-45 mins before the start of the event to park, set up, and warm up. If there is a sound check or amplification involved, we will show up 15 minutes prior to sound check or an hour before the downbeat (start).
For solo instruments, I highly recommend amplification. I use a Fishman Loudbox Artist, this is more about tone than volume, it helps support the sound so I don't have to work as hard while I am playing, and it is robust enough to fill a space with a big crowd. Events can get very loud very quickly with people trying to talk over each other.
We typically wear black but we can accommodate other looks as long as we have ample notice and are not required to spend any money out-of-pocket. I am happy to wear costumes that are provided or reimbursed.
We take a short break about every hour, when convenient.
Wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours typically last about an hour and a half together, but can sometimes run longer for religious ceremonies, or when the bridal party is late, or the weather is bad and there needs to be a contingency plan. I do charge for the extra time if the event is running late and may need to leave early if I need to make it to the next gig.
We are professional arrangers and producers here as well, so we can provide sample recordings for our prospective clients, this is something most other musicians can't do.
Paperwork is usually completed before the event. I have a short client contract and invoice I send to each of my clients and usually take a 50% deposit. If the gig is last-minute, I usually do not ask for a deposit and may or may not request a contract depending on the nature of the gig. Booking through gig salad does commit the buyer to the basic gig salad contract.
I require my clients to cover parking or travel expenses.
Please feel free to send me any questions, I'm happy to help.

About
Hi prospective clients!
There is a wonderful phrase spoken famously by the grandfather of modern cellists, Pablo Casals: "I am a person first, a musician second, and a cellist third." The first time I heard those words, I was just a kid in the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. Yo-yo Ma was the guest speaker at a fundraising gala I attended on behalf of the student representatives. He spoke about maestro Casals' dedication to his own humanity above all things, and that moment has stayed in my heart ever since. I am a person who values her humanity, and the greatest joy in my life is to bring happiness, peace, and affirmation into others' lives by doing what I love. Which brings me back to that moment...
The day that I got to meet Yo-yo Ma was a very special day. I remember warming up for rehearsal, tuning my strings, when the administration made an announcement that Mr. Ma was touring with the Pacific Symphony, our professional parent orchestra. Our director asked if any of us would like to meet him in person. Wait just a second here, THE Yo-yo Ma?!?! Can you believe it: NO ONE raised their hand. Except me, of course. I held it up, loud and proud! It amazes me that people can let special moments and opportunities pass them by just to fit in.
Throughout my life as a musician, my love of life and gaining new experiences has kept me far away from playing it cool, even if it singles me out. I went through the usual conservatory training and the system tried to tempt me with competition, but I didn't take the bait for a second. After my BM in cello performance, I studied contemporary arranging and production at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where I found my people, like-minded, kind-hearted souls from around the world. Since graduation, I've had the tremendous honor to play with artists like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Eminem, Troye Sivan, Grey and others. I have recorded solo recording sessions for video games and television. The steps I took to get where I am were just tools to help me improve in a technical sense and achieve career milestones, but the real point is to use my music to strengthen human relationships. I'd like to think it's not just about the cello playing. Helping people connect is why I'm here, and I hope that's how you feel when you hire me, that you feel the tremendous joy I have for what I do, and that you receive it in great quantities and without apology!
I hope you see that I'm not another person in the crowded field of music who thinks playing it cool is they way to be a legitimate artist. In my life, your event is my very top priority. Your event is a special moment, it is a chance for me to bring the transformative therapy of music to others, to turn an ordinary moment into something special, eternal, and memorable, and to make the beauty of life shine brightly in honor of you and your loved ones. I don't let special moments go by, ever. Life is too short, and the relationships we make with others are the most important things we have.
My Warmest,
Michelle
P.S. I will happily play for your LGBTQ+ wedding!
