We had such an amazing experience with MJ's Brass Boppers visiting Sterne School! The music was tight, the musicianship heavy, and MJ and crew taught our kids so much about New Orleans music in their performance. They brought joy and craft to our community and we couldn't be happier with the event--both professionally and musically. Book them!

HIRE. THIS. BAND. They were the absolute highlight of our wedding! I lived in New Orleans for a few years, and these guys are as good as any brass band you will catch there. MJ was an absolute pleasure to work with during the entire process from hiring to night of. Absolutely rocked it. Can't wait to see them again soon!!!!

We had them come out for our opening ceremony at Lake Merritt for event and they were awesome. The sound was on point. The look was on point from the grand Master to the dancers to MJ and everyone in the band. Will definitely hire again.

We booked MJ's Brass Boppers for a group birthday party in COVID times. MJ was really professional with the way they organized the gig and and showed up early and ready to perform. We were in a park in SF and it was super fun.The music is super accessible for adults and children and they treated us like family. They are about as close to the authentic New Orleans sound as you can get here in the Bay Area. Even though we're in the pandemic, they sounded super tight. I would book them again in a second.

MJ and his Brass Boppers played at our wedding and brought the heat, making for an incredibly unique and memorable experience. Everyone was genuinely surprised and thrilled when they walked out immediately after the ceremony and started playing, setting the tone for the whole night. Had they just played their set and departed, it would have been a legit 5-star performance... but their second line was absolutely magical and took things to a whole new level. Leading a second line was a dream come true for us, but the most memorable part was seeing the pure joy it brought to everyone - not only our friends and family but the total strangers coming out of their shops and driving by in their cars. It was the highlight of the night and people have not stopped talking about it. Booking MJ's Brass Boppers was the best decision of our wedding, short of us getting married of course. We won't ever forget it.

Additionally, I cannot emphasize enough how easy it was to work with MJ. He was incredibly professional and attentive, and at the same time easy going and genuinely friendly throughout the experience. We made a few last minute changes and he was more than accommodating, which we really appreciated in the last few days leading up to our wedding.

MJBB played at the end of our wedding ceremony and did a fantastic job. Friends and family told us this was the most fun wedding they'd ever been too. The band is very professional, they are highly polished and keep the energy high.

From hire to performance it was clear that MJ and his crew were more than just a vendor at a wedding. MJ heard our ideas and lent his feedback, but while doing so, really took an opportunity to get to know us and our style. It is so evident the amount pride and joy they take from their work - this energy was extremely obvious at our wedding.

As far as being more than a vendor, MJ and the Boppers felt like family at our wedding. They were thoughtful and intentional with their song choices, we were absolutely breath-taken by how well their song list reflected us as a couple. It was as if they'd known us forever.

During the wedding EVERYONE was commenting on how wonderful the music was. As soon as they uttered the words congratulations, a compliment was given about the band. It made the event feel so whole and complete, they really tied everything together. It's been several days since the wedding, and we are still getting texts and calls about how wonderful the music was.

You like to think people will remember your wedding because they love you. And they will, but MJ and Brass Boppers are MEMORABLE and I don't doubt anyone will ever forget them.

The only regret we have as far MJ goes, is we only had them for cocktail hour and dinner, if we could do it again, they'd be playing the entire night. I guess we'll just have to plan another event. :)

MJ's Brass Boopers made our wedding pure magic! I can't begin to describe how much of an impact they had on our special day. MJ was responsive and extremely easy to work with throughout the entire process, and the music.. bellissimo!
We got married on a hot sunny day outside of Gilroy. As soon as the ceremony ended MJ and the guys came out onto to the lawn and began building up the percussion before unleashing their horns. The sight and sound of the band electrified our guests, and brought everyone to their feet as we proceeded with the second line in pure New Orleans fashion, parading around with our umbrellas and hankies.
When we arrived at the reception, the guys played the classics to perfection and threw in originals which were just as good. They played for well over an hour in the blistering heat. The music was phenomenal and their enthusiasm never faltered.
As the weeks roll by, we are still hearing from guests that it was the best experience they have ever had at a wedding. Thank you so much for the memories guys. See you at the next show!

MJ and his crew made our company all hands the most memorable ever! Very responsive to a VERY last minute request with less than a 24 hour notice. Employees are still talking about it. The musicians were right on time and the music was perfect for the event. Great guys, very professional and friendly. It was the highlight of the party!

What a great time! MJ's Brass Boppers played at our wedding in Healdsburg and came with such great energy! All the guests enjoyed them and were so excited to see a live band perform. They are an authentic sounding new orleans sounding brass band. It was great to deal with MJ leading up to the wedding, and they really cared about making sure when the day came we were going to enjoy ourselves. I would highly recommend booking them for a party, wedding or any kinda or event! They are great musicians.

I hired MJ for my grandmother's memorial reception, and they were amazing. I couldn't be more proud and thankful that I hired MJs Brass Boppers to send off my grandma in such an upbeat, authentic fashion. I'll admit, at first I was hesitant to hire them because I worried they would be too loud and distracting given the venue--the restaurant at Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco. The venue holds about 150 people and we didn't really know what the guest turnout would be for the reception. The moment they started playing you could feel the energy rise--which is incredible considering a lot of my relatives can be quite stiff. By the end of the reception everyone was smiling. Many of us in attendance will not forget this memorial reception purely because of MJ and his group. Thank you.

MJ's Brass Boppers played the 9th Annual Oakland Indie Awards this year at Jack London Square's market building. They were an amazing opener! Lively, energetic, and not afraid to hop off the stage and dance and play with the crowd! MJ was a pleasure to work. He responded promptly to my initial inquiry, and was quick on email and phone with any requests. Diverse band too which is awesome. They have an authentic New Orleans sound - I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

My husband and I spent a long time trying to find an authentic New Orleans sounding brass band for our wedding that were in California as we did not have the budget to fly anyone in to Los Angeles from afar. We had done a cross country roadtrip when we were dating and one of the highlights of our trip was a brass band we stumbled upon in the streets of New Orleans. When planning our wedding, we decided early on that having a brass band was a MUST during cocktail hour. There were a various options but it was find to find the "authenticity" we were looking for.

I'm SO glad we found MJs -- they were so accommodating, fun, mobile and we feel they will forever be a part of our family. Everyone at our wedding had the BEST time.. in fact, my husband's aunt and uncle said they'd pay for them to stay longer!!

The band was so easy to work with and performed flawlessly. They have perfected their craft and are all such amazing musicians with great personalities that come through in their performance. They were the life of the party, everyone was blown away, especially us. We requested "All You Need Is Love" by The Beatles and they nailed it! Couldn't have asked for a better performance, we didn't want them to stop.

I was planning a party and really wanted to make it special for my guests...something they would remember for ever. It was a milestone type celebration and I wanted a real New Orleans style band to really toast things in a soulful manner. Not really knowing where to look for that I happened to stumble upon MJ's Band. After talking to him about my hopes and desires for this event I booked them. Best decision I ever made. They were perfect, enthusiastic, talented, and most of all FUN! I can't say enough about them and if you are considering them for your party, dance, or whatever you will not be disappointed.

They were amazing. Such great musicians, such great energy. They really got the party started.

MJ's Brass Boppers in Santa Cruz

When I was planning an exhibit of photographs from the book, , "New Orleans Suite, Music and Culture in Transition" that I co-authored with Prof. Eric Porter, I knew I wanted to have a party with genuine New Orleans flavor. I remembered the MJ's Brass Boppers from the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival and events at the Jazz Heritage Center and I asked them to play at the opening of my exhibit at the Sesnon Gallery on the campus of U.C. Santa Cruz in October 2012. They came down from the city and played in Porter College, lead a Second Line through the gallery, across campus and over the Digital Arts Research Center where I gave a talk after they played in the auditorium. Everyone said it felt as close to being in New Orleans as is possible without being there. They rocked the campus and people are still talking about it. I know they do the same during the first Fridays Art Walk in Oakland and everywhere else they play. They have my great thanks and strongest recommendation to anyone who would like to feel the spirit and essence of the strong New Orleans Culture. They are the real deal and people in New Orleans were very impressed that I had Big Chief Hatchet at my opening.
