I’m a professional singer and teacher. I sing classical music, opera, church music, musical theater, and jazz. I’ve performed as a soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Concert Choir, Lancaster Chorale, and several other organizations in the region. Armed with an masters degree in music performance, I'm a quick study and perform with thoughtful nuance. Monica Ely is a soprano from Mobile, Alabama. In 2018 Monica completed the Summer Vocology Institute through the National Center for Voice and Speech where she studied science based pedagogy with leading voice scientist, Dr. Ingo Titze. She also studied various therapeutic practices from pioneering speech language pathologist, Dr. Kittie Verdolini Abbot. Monica’s research interests include quantifying vocal change over time and comparing the physiological differences between classical bel canto singing and musical theater belting.
She maintains an active career performing as a chorister and soloist with several organizations such as the Toledo Opera Chorus, the Detroit Concert Choir, and the LanchasterChorale. She is a member of the professional choir at the Historic Mariners’ Church of Detroit where she is happy to perform weekly. Ms. Ely made her solo debut in 2014 as the soprano soloist in the Ludolph Arens Mass. In 2017, she was the soprano soloist in Bach’s Ascension Oratorio with the Detroit Concert Choir and the Michigan Sinfonietta. This year, Monica made her solo debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in their performance of The Magic of Harry Potter. Monica is a passionate vocal health advocate who believes that you are the leading expert of your voice and everyone should be singing.
