Inviting Mr. Enlightenment back to his alma mater as part of our Alumni Reading Series turned out to be an excellent decision. His poems and the reading of them were engaging, and he really connected with the students, who talked about his event for a long time after. Highly recommend.
Mr. Enlightenment and I worked on a poetry walking tour together. You can put a check mark next to all the standard stuff, professional, motivated, eager to learn, research, study and willing to take extra time or meet with me to review ideas, plans, speeches for the project. The shiny bits are the personality, warmth, wisdom and welcoming energy he brought to the entire project. We discussed important poems from different moments in history and his own poetry. He brought strength, flair and awesome presentation to both. His performance of the poems was captivating and was highly entertaining to the audience. In the midst of historical poems, his personal work was revealing and was deeply concerned with the theme and ideas of the time periods we discussed. We are currently working together on another poetry project. He has been optimistic, forthright and engaging, but also strong enough to offer his own personal insights and suggest alternatives.. If you are looking for an outgoing, energetic and responsible person for you needs, definitely consider Mr. Enlightenment
Price Range: $75 and up (additional fees for travel/lodging).
Mr. Enlightenment was born in the small town of Walterboro, SC. He grew up listening to his favorite hip-hop artists often writing raps of his own. His hip-hop roots are evident in his poetry. While enrolled at Presbyterian College, Mr. Enlightenment took a creative writing poetry class. It was at that time he put together his first collection of poems. After graduating, he wrote from time to time, but nothing serious. A breakup sparked his creativity once again. In 2009, he released his first chapbook, Walletz & Pursez. He released three more (L.I.G.H.T., A Poet’s Playground, Flicker Poetry). He has also released two poetry CDs (Worth My Weight in Watts (2015) and Summer Soulstice (2017). Mr. Enlightenment’s name is a play on words stemming from his job as an educator. Also, he wanted to shine on stage while delivering his work. Mr. Enlightenment has performed at various venues in SC & GA. His website is (link hidden). You can also follow him on social media @kilowattpoet and (link hidden).
