I sing for young children from babies to early elementary. I sing songs that invite them to interact with the music (jump up and down, turn around, dance around, fly like a bird, etc.) I also bring instruments for them to play along. This is for my more interactive show which holds most young children's attention for about 1/2 hour. I sing with preschoolers, toddlers and babies almost every day for about a 45 minute span of time as I work with a Community music school, Mountain Top Music Center. I also work in my own line of entertainment for fairs, festivals, children's play centers, birthday parties, etc. I sing for entertainment for a couple or more hours for events as well.
I recently saw Sharon perform at a concert series I help out with. She is verry good at what she does. I enjoyed watching her connect with the kids.

I will usually begin a show with my original song, "Come On, Everybody, Dance with Me." I will then sing my series of interactive songs depending on the audience's engagement level. If the audience is not specifically engaged, I will sing my kid songs that kids enjoy and that the crowd will enjoy hearing. I almost always have a few engaged instrument players in an open type show. During these times I will be playing kid friendly upbeat covers like "Crocodile Rockin'" or some of my upbeat originals. If there happen to be really quiet moments, I will take advantage of these times to sing lullabies or less upbeat songs. I am always scanning my audience for the appropriate songs for the moment.
I love a captive audience most. Here children can interact with me and, believe me, it has been called a rock concert for little children. They love it. Parents enjoy my interaction with their children and them. I believe in always being upbeat, staying positive, and having fun! If it's not about having fun, I'm wasting my time.
I am very accommodating to event coordinators' expectations.
I find being amplified is best in loud events so I always request a power source for my 120 watt amp. I have gone acoustic in quieter events or events where there are different things happening. Amplified is my preference as it is easier on the voice and I can adjust volume. But again, I will accommodate.
I am a singer and a songwriter who sings for young children. I have been doing this for 7 years now and I love it. I am flexible to an event planners expectations. I can do a show for 30 minutes or 4 or more hours depending on your needs. I can be a very interactive performer for a more captive audience. With young children, the attention span does not usually exceed 30 minutes. I can do this type of show, once or cycled through more than once. I can also be more free about my performing depending on my interaction with my engaged audience. I have done all of these with much success. You just have to describe to me the nature of the event and what you would like to get out of my performance. I carry instruments for children to play along. I find that children love the singer with a guitar. I do have one CD published and a second coming out by February, 2014. I like to sell these but will accommodate wishes of the event planner. I have my amplifier which works for a decent size space, but will be happy to use a larger one available with event if necessary.
I'm pretty self sufficient for average sized spaces. I ask for one power source for my amplifier and a canopy if we are outside in case there is bad weather which I have provided if this is not available. I can bring a small table unless the event coordinator has a table available. I like enough space to allow children to play instruments and dance. I love when little children join me while I sing. It makes my show awesome! As I have said, being amplified is best, but I can be flexible when necessary.

This list is not totally exhaustive and is always growing.
For me, building my repertoire is based primarily on my experience as I watch what songs children respond to best. I have been doing this long enough to know what works. I find that in the world of songs already written that many sources are beneficial. Everyone loves the Beatles, so I sing kid friendly Beatles tunes. Raffi and Laurie Berkner are great for kid audiences as so many parents and children know them. Of all places, I find that Barney uses some of the best traditional interactive songs. I have written so many songs myself to fit moments in my performances that I want to see happen as well. I use anything that works and gets a good response!
