Life has been much like a dance for Belize City, Belize-born bombshell MzLady Zea Her spirit is as free as the bright red dreadlocks dripping from her crown. Her creativity is as captivating as the storyline of tattoos that adorn her honey-gold-complexioned body. And deep within her soul, the sound of music radiates from her silky slim silhouette.
That undeniable glow as afforded her to be featured in music videos for several international hip-hop and raggaeton artists. That same glow has allowed her to become a household name throughout the state of Florida as an entertainer and model. Her undeniable beauty breathes life into the eyes of the beholder. And her musical talents have afforded her the luxury of becoming platinum-selling production tandem Cool and Dre.
Soon come, the world will have the opportunity to dance right beside her by way of upcoming project Admit One featuring none other than Cool and Dre behind the production and engineering boards.
“My style is different. Some people call me loud. I’m a colorful person. I’m very artsy. I have a splash of hood in me. Some people call me ratchet but it’s a refined ratchet,” Zea laughs. “I make hip-hop, but I want to take hip-hop to a world sound. I’m taking rap to my calypso and my punta vibe.”
Born Asjenee Peyssard, she was born into music. Her grandfather is a famous Belizean calypso singer, and her parents enjoyed life to the fullest, dancing and partying in the streets of their native Belize.
“I’m pretty sure when I was in the womb, my momma was partying and dancing, just like I was dancing and having a good time when I was pregnant with my son,” she suggests. “Babies are already singing, tapping, dancing, making rhythms and motions in the womb before they could even talk and walk.”
As an infant, little baby Asjenee was brought to the States with her parents at only two weeks. The family returned to Belize when she was three and came back to Florida in third grade, where she spent most of her life. There in South Florida, she brought with her the many cultures of French, German, Swiss, Spaniard and Belizean ancestry from both parents.
“My parents were lively people. They loved to explore,” she explains. “I love to explore too. I get it from them.”
She also inherited a natural love affair with music from her parents. MzLadt Zea started choir in elementary school and continued to cultivate her craft throughout grammar school and up through college. She sang in choir, danced ballet, played piano and flute and acted in several stage plays for school and theatre.
“That was a lot of entertainment etiquette training,” she says.
The future lyricist started writing her own original music at age 12. She didn’t concentrate on rap music, however, until after high school graduation. She left the comforts of South Florida and traveled North to Jacksonville in 2008 & by 2010, where she began recording and performing
“I planned on staying there a few weeks and stack some money,” she remembers, “and ended up staying a little longer. That turned into 4 years
During that 4-year period, she released singles "Tron" " Do It Like You" “Hard Times on My Grind Compilation" “Cocos” and “Secrets” and also began working on Hard Times on My Grind Mixtape While working on the Tape , she sent a track to Cool and Dre a track to get mixed and mastered. One of their representatives heard her music and was absolutely floored. They asked where she was recording and invited her to record at their studio. So during the 2015 Revolt Music Conference, she took a trip down to Miami to record two songs in their studio. She only planned on being in town for a day or two then fly to New York to record the EP, but her plans quickly changed.
“When I got to Cool and Dre, I ended up tracking out,” she recalls. “I was like ‘lemme get another track. Lemme get another track. Lemme get another track and before you know it, there’s the EP.”
Now on to even bigger endeavors, she is now under the direction of two-man production tandem responsible for the sounds of Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Christina Milian, to name a few.
“Working with Cool and Dre feels natural because they treat me like family,” MzLady Zea admits. “But I do have moments like ‘whoa.’ That is when it became so surreal for me. I’m sitting here with people who helped mold the sound of music to this day.”
And they are continuing to mold the sound of music with the upcoming release of MzLady Zea's project Admit One.
“I’m a perfectionist. I really care about my lyrics and what I’m saying to you, the message I’m sending,” she explains. “Whether it’s happy or dark or it’s a breakup or a makeup or if we’re in the club, every one of the words in my songs mean something to me for you.”
