"Nancy Unsworth is a dynamic singer whose range and devotion to her Savior will inspire you!"
Nancy J. Unsworth is the oldest of ten children. Her parents raised their large family on a small farm in rural Alberta, Canada from the time that she was 12 years old. It was there that she learned the value of family and hard work. The chickens, cows, bees and other animals kept the family going.
Nancy had her first concert at four years of age. Nancy has always wanted to be a gospel singer and some of her earliest memories are of her singing in the bathroom mirror using her hairbrush as her microphone to sing to her “audience”. She could never resist singing the old hymns and practicing harmonies around the piano. To this day it still draws her in! She sang for local talent competitions, media events, the national anthem, opening for arenas, revivals, dramatic productions, was a soloist with international choirs, churches, camp meetings, children’s summer programs, VBS, children and women’s ministries, senior homes, and special events such as weddings, funerals and baptisms. The family spent some time in Three Hills, Alberta where she sang on the local live radio, performed at Prairie Tabernacle and was encouraged by local musicians to pursue a career in gospel music.
By the time Nancy was a teenager she was singing anywhere and everywhere she could draw a crowd. Even at a young age Nancy's voice startled people with its resonance and range.
At the age of 17 Nancy began a personal relationship with the Lord. It was at this time that Nancy’s love for people was further grown when she was able to minister in other ways including working with local youth.
Growing up there were many difficulties at home but the Lord looked after her and as a result was very close to her Grandma who was a very lovely Christian woman. She would often pray with Nancy when there was trouble at home. This close friendship and bond was there until the very end of her grandmother’s long life. Nancy was given the honor of singing one last time for her grandma at her funeral in March 2010 when at the age of 90 her grandma went to be with her Savior. A year later in 2011 Nancy was able to honor her grandmother with the song Grandma Knows on her album It Took A Miracle.
Nancy met her now husband Larry in Alberta and had a long distance relationship over the next four years. In 1998 they married and started their life together. With her husband she would minister at Hope Mission, a local homeless shelter and in their home church. After her husband finished university they moved to Ontario, Canada where Larry did his PhD. During this time the Lord blessed them with their son and daughter. It was at this time Nancy was able to build on her classical training, perform in various venues and enjoy being a wife and a mother. Nancy also began to share publicly about the power of forgiveness and healing that only Christ can bring from childhood abuse and growing up in a cult. It is so clear through hearing Nancy's story that she is a survivor. In 2005 the young family moved to the greater Boston area where she was able to increase her repertoire by training in American folk and learning to perform in various languages. An opportunity was made available in 2007 to move back to Canada again and the young family settled down in Alberta, Canada.
Nancy has been busy touring...singing, speaking, songwriting and recording in Nashville, TN, USA.
Nancy is very involved in her local church, motivational speaking, working with CHOIRS, SENIORS and YOUTH promoting gospel music and enjoys opportunities to be involved in the thriving music scene in Canada.
