Natalja's beautiful voice, grace and charm made my grandfather's 95th birthday in the midst of the Covid 19 crisis an absolute success. Being able to send Natalja to his front walk as a surprise on his birthday made what could have been a lonely and hard day into a delightful surprise for my grandfather, who was tickled pink by the experience. Natalja called to talk about the gig ahead of time, prepared an amazing array of beautiful music and came with her own music and mic, appearing at just the right moment to create the optimal experience. She took extra care to curate the experience for him and was patient, kind and an incredibly skillful artist.
Natalya was innovative in creating a zoom performance in front of a backdrop of an opera theater. All dressed in costume, she delivered a stellar performance. Due to COVID-19, no personage could enter the home of my mother of 92 young. This was the next best thing - our favorite operatic arias delivered via laptop. “Brava Natalja!” Thank you for making my mother’s birthday so special. She said she will never forget this wonderful gift!

With searing accuracy, sensitivity to the text, and gorgeous depth of tone, Natalja (or Natasha, or just "Nat") Sticco gave her first of many solo performances in the sacred music program at St. Adelaide Parish with a stunning rendition of "Et exaltavit" from the Bach "Magnificat" on Saturday, December 22. Since then, she has been helping out with choral and solo work, easily jumping from alto to soprano when needed, effortlessly sight-reading everything from Lassus and Scarlatti to Mendelssohn and Howells, in any of a number of languages in which she is fluent. Most importantly, she is an absolute delight to work with, warm and encouraging with the amateurs in my various choral groups, exuding a refreshingly playful humility to shroud her formidable talent and intellect. Your quote will be for a full 60 minute commitment, with very few exceptions. Often even when performing at a small event guests enjoy making additional requests which I’m happy to accommodate. I am a professional singer, and a ‘small business’, and my quotes (as well as performance) reflect aspects the audience doesn’t see such as preparing the repertoire, rehearsal, travel, make-up, wardrobe and the other business related expenses/investment which goes into being a professional. Accommodating even a 15 or 30 minute request can mean 2-3 hours of preparation, so please be mindful of these factors when making your request.
Early Life & Inspiration
Born in Riga, USSR, Natalja was a small girl when peaceful protests opened the way to her country declaring its independence in 1991; contributing to the fall of the Soviet Union. This ‘Singing Revolution,’ as it’s known, became the dawn of new opportunity in a newly independent Latvia. ‘I didn’t understand what was happening around me, but I remember the music everywhere my mother took me.’ Natalja recalls, ‘and I remember the joy in the adults around me when we heard it. When I learned more about those days in school, I realized the power music had to truly bring hope and inspire change.’
Training & Opera Career
In 2009, Natalja entered the prestigious Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) where she studied Vocal Performance. There, she earned a coveted spot as a member of Opera Studio ‘Figaro,’ performing the roles of Filippyevna (Eugene Onegin), Kastcheevna (Kaschey the Immortal), Death (chamber opera Stalin and Death). That same year Natalja became a Young Artist of the Latvian National Opera & Ballet, under the Direction of Andrejs Zagars. As a young LNO artist she performed the roles of Orlofsky (die Fledermaus) and mastered the role of Olga (Eugene Onegin). She has featured in Master Classes with Axel Everaert (Belgium), Margarita Gruzdeva and Anita Garanca (Latvia) as well as studying under Soprano Hanneke de Wit (Netherlands).
Over her seven seasons with the Latvian National Opera, Natalja appeared in over 200 productions of 30 Operas in Opera Houses across Europe including: Teatro Calderón, Vallladolid, Spain (Macbeth, 2010); National Opera and Ballet of Belarus, Minsk (Traviata, 2010); Rahvusooper Estonia, Talllinn (Eugene Onegin, M'dame Butterfly, 2011); Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, Russia (Eugene Oregon, Lucia di Lammermoor, 2013), Monte Carlo (Carmen, 2013), as well as the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman (Der fliegende Holländer, 2013). Additionally, she was privileged to share the stage with Opera stars such as Tenor Jonas Kaufman, legendary Russian Mezzo Soprano Elena Obraztsova and fellow Latvians Soprano Kristine Opolais, Soprano Marina Rebekka and Mezzo Soprano Elina Garanca.
Since immigrating to the United States in 2018, and launching the next phase of her professional career as a Soloist and Concert Performer, Natalja continues mastering her artistry guided by Maestro Paolo de Napoli (Italy), and expanding her repertoire to include Baroque and Early Music Baritone under the tutelage of Thomas Jones of Harvard University’s Office for the Arts.
