New York Jukebox

We will set up a fully refurbished 1954 Seeburg HF100R jukebox at your location. Fifty 45 rpm records of your choice will be installed, with printed title strips. The jukebox will be tested at the event site to insure correct operation, and collected within 24 hours after the event. At time of delivery, we will demonstrate the use of the jukebox, and leave written instructions as well. Unless you request otherwise, the jukebox will be set on “free play,” and will not require coins. In the unlikely event of a problem with the jukebox during your event, we’ll send someone out immediately to restore it to working order.

Though this jukebox is associated with the 1950s, any kind of music sounds great on it. We want you to be excited about the records in the jukebox, whether you prefer familiar hits or offbeat obscurities. Many artists continue to insist that their music be released on vinyl, and a surprisingly number of small labels issue old and new recordings. You can choose any level of engagement in selecting the records, or you can hand that off to us, instead choosing from general themes.

Because of its tube amplifier and five speakers, the Seeburg HF100R is generally considered one of the best sounding jukes ever made. It was designed to fill a busy room with sound. It cannot compete with a modern state of the art sound system for power or clarity. The best way to hear what it sounds like is to come to the shop!

New York Jukebox was founded in 2016 by Terry Swords, ten years after his wife gave him a jukebox. Terry learned to read by studying record labels, or so he has been told. His earliest career ambition was to be a disk jockey.

He had served in New York City’s public schools as a teacher and administrator for nearly 20 years, completing his career as an educator in Sudan with his family. Since then, Terry’s been absorbed by jukebox technicians’ manuals, electronics textbooks, back issues of trade magazines, and hobbyists’ handbooks. He is grateful to the wise elders who tended jukeboxes when they were the cornerstone of the music industry.

It's very simple. You will need to provide a suitable location- dry, level, & secure, with access to electricity—and ensure that we have access at time of delivery and collection. The jukebox can be delivered over a few steps, but cannot be taken up or down stairs. You will need to provide contacts for payment, delivery and collection. There must be someone at the event who will call if there are any operational questions.

The jukebox sounds great and is loud enough for dancing in a small space, but it isn't as loud as a live band, and would not be a good substitute in a large space. Still perfect for a lounge, waiting area, or any place people might be milling about.
