Nyla Stats
Guitarist & Vocalist
The question one must first ask is who is Nyla Stats?
Nyla is a very talented individual who from a very early age started playing musical instruments and singing. And to this day is still very passionate about her musical talent.
Nyla began by playing piano at age three and then moved on to other instruments such as violin, organ, sax and guitar. Her vocal style was set early while singing in church along with family members.
Nyla grew up in New Concord, Ohio and wrote her first song on the piano at age 8. She went on to have leading roles in her school plays. One most favorite to her was “Josephine,” where she was required learn more then twenty tunes. Quite a challenge for such a young person. But this instilled certain disciplines in her that can only be learned by performing. Nyla went on to excel vocally in high school competitions and was honored to be inducted into the Ohio State Fair Choir, consisting of
three hundred members. With this group she had the privilege to tour all over Europe.
While attending The Ohio State University, she formed a seven–member all–female band, performing locally and at women's festivals and private parties.
Some of Nyla's early musical inspirations came from such great artists as Carol King, James Taylor and
Elvis Presley.
In 1989, Nyla became a charter member of 'Taxi', an organization that helps songwriters and bands get their music published or licensed in the film industry. At one point she met Michael, also known as Taxiboss, in LA and he likened her music to Richard Marx, a pop composer.
Nyla continued to perform with different groups. One in particular was a group called 'Rainbow Country', where she recorded an original song, “Woodswind” along with fellow musician Christopher Wintrip, an inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She then produced and recorded her video
“Woodswind” which can be viewed on Youtube.
Nyla has showcased her music with other great artists, such as Michael Nesmith of the classic 60's group “The Monkee's” who gave her high marks for her talented writing. This encouragement and connection led to her recording six tunes with Mr. Wintrip (Canton, OH) and seven tunes with producer Steve Bodner (New Concord, OH) in his state – of-the-art recording studio. The CD was entitled
“We Can Go On From Here.”
During 2009 Nyla performed and was well received at the 18th Annual Women's Music Festival in Kirkersville, OH. Nyla continues to perform and participate in various women's organizations.
Not resting on her laurels, in 2012 Nyla made another video with her hit tune “All Cats Are Gray.” This song was the feature tune on her first CD. She has had high praise for this tune, and it is also on Youtube.
In 2015 Nyla began to step up her pace by recording two more CD's, with producer and songwriter
John Gay in his state-of-the-art recording studio (Easley, SC). His musical intuitiveness to her style has led her to do CD 2, “Reflections: Unbridled Genres, and CD 3, “Is It Worth The Tears?” (13 songs each) with him. Nyla is now preparing to work on another CD with John in the very near future.
Her repertoire ranges from 50’s to current pieces, and encompasses Indie acoustic rock, ballads with a country flavor, even ranging akin to a Stevie Nicks sound vocally; sometimes like Bonnie Raitt.
Her originals (over 70 tunes) show her unique lyrics and, at times tongue-in-cheek meanings and sassy rhythms always leaving you wanting more. You’ll find yourself repeating the hooks over and over.
She currently lives in Anderson, SC, teaching privately multiple instruments and songwriting and performance techniques. She is currently working on her 3rd professional music video, for the song “Steve And Sushi,” filmed in Key West, FL.
So if you are looking for a highly energized and passionate performer for your next event, you need not look any further. Nyla will meet all of your musical expectations and then some.
