It's fun-five-string-entertainment for all when Michael York brings his ONE MAN BANJO show to intimate settings and BIG ROOMS alike. Michael and his banjos have performed on stages from The Mirage and Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas to Nashville; From Texas to Myrtle Beach to Nolita House in New York City as well as major venues around Charlotte and private events when there's just no substitute for MORE BANJO!
Michael was awesome!! Such a perfect performer for our event. Offered to do a one person interactive show or just play in the background. We did both. Background to begin and he interacted with the audience during dinner. Plus he went out of his way to help promote the event on social media before and after. Nice touch. Great music, great performance.
Response from One Man Banjo:
Mark! Thanks for everything. Just one of my favorite gigs EVER! What an amazing group of people. Appreciate the Morganton hospitality for sure. I can see why it was SOLD OUT, you put on a FIRST CLASS EVENT and everyone had a great day. All the best to you and the Cigar Club!
I recently attended a performance by Michael York, otherwise known as One Man Banjo. His performance was nothing short of outstanding! His banjo playing was exceptional, and the music he created was extremely entertaining. He is highly professional and his performance was enjoyed by all. I would highly recommend One Man Banjo for any event. His performance was truly exceptional and I can confidently say that everyone present had an enjoyable and memorable experience.
I put on The Dockwood Music Show featuring various artists and Michael York of One Man Banjo was the absolute standout! I've seen him perform several times and the audience is always completely engaged. I would never hesitate to hire him because he delivers what you want. He's money in the bank. He puts on an amazing show with an audience that doesn't want to leave.
As the CEO of NIADA and in charge of talent for our kick-off events for our National Conventions, we're always looking for unique talent and putting on a big show for our attendees, usually over a thousand plus people. In 2012 we booked Mr. York as an opening act with another band. He was so well received we brought him back the following year at Caesars Palace to open for a Vegas LEGENDS show---Billy Joel, Elton John and Tina Turner. He did such a great job opening the show that the LEGENDS members all came onstage to give him a "high-five" and the crowd loved it. I would highly recommend Michael York and his ONE MAN BANJO show for any event, large or small. He is a true professional and I have continued to work with him many times since then. Michael R. Linn, CEO, NIADA
One man banjo is not your normal experience. So many different styles of music to enjoy and gather with friends over a fine cigar and a craft beer or glass of wine.
We've had One Man Banjo play multiple events for us across multiple locations and he is such a crowd pleaser! He plays deep cut tracks and works the crowd unlike any other live act we've booked!
Price Range: $400 and up (based on event/location)
Gig Length: 60 - 180 minutes
EXPECT Michael to go out of his way to make his clients AND his audience remember that BANJO DAY!
From a client where Michael ended up playing regular and special Holiday shows...Amy says,
"Hey Michael!
I wanted to pass on that one of our garden staff members was highly complimentary about your performance and said that you even went out of your way to stay late just to play for a few guest. I love hearing such great feedback and I’m sure you do as well so thank you and keep up the great work!
I also wanted to reach out and see if you would be able to play a Christmas set for our Holiday Light Exhibit that runs November-December. It is a two hour set of all Christmas music (most performers do a one hour set twice) and it would be $300 for a performance. Is that something you would be interested in?
I look forward to hearing from you!"

A recent booking at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC actually involved TWO event planners who went in search of a SOLO BANJO act. When I talked with Mikayla at Key Signature Events I told her I'm guessing she had a "pretty short list." It was a 3 hour gig for a Mosaix client from Pennsylvania and was a great evening out on the Mountain View Terrace that everyone loved. The next week I received TWO emails, one from each of the event planners...
"Hey Michael, below is the feedback I received from Mosaix’s team from your performance last week. And Anna Katherine said that she thoroughly enjoyed communicating with you leading up to the event!
Thanks so much for taking care of them last week! So happy we had this opportunity to work with you, and we look forward to working with you again soon! Enclosed is your check for $600."
"Michael York was fantastic!! He’s really really talented. He had 3 banjos with him to play. He was interactive with the group, particularly during the reception portion (when they were up & roaming), the guests asked him lots of questions & enjoyed his playing. During dinner the guests were not interactive since they were seated & it was a seated serve dinner. I would definitely recommend him to work other events."
Michael York first began playing banjo in 1976...
In 2009, after attending an Earl Scruggs show (again), he decided to become better at it!
Michael is proof that ANYONE can learn to play any musical instrument they choose, simply by DECIDING to do it and making a commitment to yourself to become a better student. He's also proof that you don't need a band to play for audiences--just start playing and see where it can take you. As a professional speaker, consultant, and author, he speaks and writes on PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT and the power of GOALS.
As a banjoist, Michael say's he's "just having fun" with people who love music-- ALL KINDS of music, not just the typical BLUEGRASS BANJO that you might expect. This show has a few twists and turns and even a couple of unexpected BANJO adventures.
He has played a variety of music genres with bands from bluegrass to country to Gospel, classic rock and even jazz, recently playing with Nashville recording artists, Gal Friday Band and (when he can get them all together) his own ensemble of musical adventurers- Michael York and the Big Cigar Band.
Now his ONE MAN BANJO show brings his own unique combination of live and "karaoke-style" banjo to venues all around the Charlotte area and beyond, showcasing tunes from some of the most famous banjo players ever, and some tunes you might recognize but have NEVER HEARD on a banjo. Hear the stories and see his tributes to Earl Scruggs, Bela Fleck, Steve Martin, Styx, U2 and more.
Michael and his banjo's have appeared onstage from Nashville to the legendary Caesar's Palace and The Mirage in Las Vegas! All across the Carolinas' and regularly in the cigar clubs and live music venues around the Charlotte area as well as a number of private events...when ONLY BANJO will do! As an ambassador for many styles of music, ONE MAN BANJO is a one-of-a-kind musical experience. Michael is committed to making sure the audience has a great time as he weaves his humor and stories to interact and keep them entertained.
As Michael likes to say, "If you only see ONE One-Man-Banjo-Show this year...why not make it THIS ONE!?"

This is a Banjo show influenced by classic and legendary performers like Earl Scruggs and Bela Fleck as well as those who bring a UNIQUE STYLE of entertaining an audience to the banjo, like Michael's tribute to Steve Martin!
Bluegrass, Gospel, Country, Classic Rock and even Jazz where Michael combines the "full/backing band sound" with tracks played from the stage as he pays tribute to many songs and artists NOT ASSOCIATED with banjo or bluegrass including U2, STYX, Jimmy Buffet and others.
