We are a bluegrass band that can deliver a very traditionally-oriented set if that's what you're looking for, but we're at our best being eclectic: in addition to standard bluegrass material, we have loads of energetic, tasteful acoustic arrangements of western swing, rock, country, folk, and even classical-sounding tunes.
We usually perform as a mandolin/guitar/bass trio but can bring along killer fiddle, banjo, or dobro players if you'd like to hear those too.
The band was amazing!!! Everything we hoped for and more! They were helpful, professional and super talented! I'd have them at my wedding again and again! Their version of Walk Through This World With Me was just what I wanted!!!
Response from Out of the Blue:
Thanks so much—we had a great time performing for you and all your guests, it was a beautiful wedding!

A typical performance includes about two-thirds vocal tunes and one-third instrumentals, but we can tailor our setlist to suit your event. All three core band members sing both lead and harmony parts depending on the song. We've got plenty of of high-energy numbers and slower tunes as well.
Out of the Blue got started in the winter of 2004/2005 when guitarist Jamie Stubblefield pulled together some friends to play a little bluegrass. These days the lineup has Jamie joined by Ginger Evans on bass and Rob Lifford on mandolin.
Jamie is equally happy—and skillful—fingerpicking the sweetest country ballads or flatpicking fiddle tunes at breakneck speed. He’s also a member of Ptarmigan, one of Austin’s finest and most longstanding Celtic bands.
Rob was a typical high school guitar geek, fooling around with all flavors of rock, pop, and jazz until he started to catch the bluegrass bug in the mid ’90s. Since 2001 he's focused equally on mandolin and performed with various singer-songwriters in addition to bluegrass bands.
Ginger jointed OotB in the summer of 2008. She’s a longtime veteran of the central Texas acoustic music scene, having played with various bluegrass, western swing, and folk acts over the years.
The band performs regularly at Austin clubs, restaurants, and farmers' markets, as well as a wide variety of private events: backyard parties, corporate events, wedding ceremonies & receptions, and more.
We have plenty of experience performing with and without a PA system, and if we can help you figure out what's required for your event if you're not sure. If a PA system is necessary, we can provide one for a reasonable fee.
