Outta Our Minds

Instruction on how to decorate a Small Sock Puppet. I will arrive with (ten or more) blank handmade Small Sock Puppets. Each undecorated puppet is approximately, 10 inches long and 5 inches wide made out of poly-fleece. The puppets come in the following assorted colors: white, blue, red, yellow, green, pink, black or orange. All puppets have soft foam mouth pallets, very easy to manipulate and great facial expressions.
The puppet making takes approximately 60-75 minutes. It begins with a show and tell of my finished puppets and how I find inspiration. Each participant chooses a blank puppet to decorate. Drawing paper and a pencil are given to the participants for sketching their puppet design. All necessary crafting supplies are included and brought to your selected location. A buffet of craft supplies are layed out for them to choose from. Decoration options are demonstrated.
I suggest the addition of one or two adults to assist with the hot glue guns.
By the end of the session, each of the participants will have created a unique and personal puppet friend to take home.

Making puppets just seems to be the right thing for me to do. I love exploring the art form and creating the cavalcade of characters. Creating comes naturally to me, just like breathing. My full-time day gig is teaching Visual Art to a bunch of middle and high school students. It's a blast and always an adventure. I get my puppet inspiration from them and my family. All of my puppets are made by me in my home studio. Individually named because their characteristics remind me of my students, family or friends. ​

I am not a puppet performer. I love the behind the scenes work and making the puppets. To make the event as successful as possible, we will need some portable tables with protective coverings (paper or plastic tablecloth). An adjacent area with access to electricity, for hot glue gunning. Extra adult/teen hands are appreciated and helpful, especially when working with young children. The area will get messy, feathers, yarn and sequins, oh my!!
