Portland's "Latin Rock Exchange" had their debut 1-hour showcase set at Albert Street Pub last week, sharing the evening with two other bands. It went so well that the venue immediately asked us to return on our own. Top professionals Eric Beam, trumpet teacher at PSU, and Tony and Matt from Portland's busiest salsa band, Son De Cuba, sat in with us. We sounded better than any of us expected!

We play dance music with a Latin and Afro Cuban flair and flavor, with lots of percussion and dance inducing rhythms. Our sets cover Latin rock music from War, Barrabas, Buena Vista Social Club, Jobim, Santana; and many other classics across generations that everyone will know. Of course, we are happy to add any special request songs to the list, such as the bride and groom’s first song or father and daughter.

Although we have only just arrived on the scene, between us we have over 200 years of musical experience in all manner of musical entertainment, and have now combined forces to become Portland’s own Latin Rock band. I thought initially that this might be an original genre to work on as I lived in Nicaragua, Bolivia and Africa listening to this music. But it turns out there are all kinds of great tribute bands, especially out of SF and Oakland, who do this material so well. So there is definitely a market for it.
The PDX Latin Rock Exchange is a group of about twenty musicians who are prepared to bring an awesome party band to your event. Whether you need a trio to play quitely for a set or the six piece dance band, or the full 10 piece orchestra, we can provide you with the appropriate musical ambience. We also work closely with your event planner and caterers to develop an integrated entertainment experience that will never be forgotten!
The PDX Latin Rock Exchange brings all our own gear, PA, some lights and a few stage effects to every gig. So you need not worry about anything except where we play and that it has plenty of electrical outlets. We will need a covered (or indoor) stage area 8 feet deep and 16 feet wide as a minimum to fit 6 musicians and a lot of drums. For the full 10-piece orchestra, we will need a minimum stage width of 20 feet.
