Description:
“A tasteful ambiance” easily describes the musical expressions when performed live by the Peacock
Alley Jazz Group. The band’s name Peacock Alley refers to the name given to old US Hwy 41 between
Dalton and Atlanta during the early 1900's when tufted cotton chenille bedspreads adorned with
peacock designs would beckon travelers to stop and purchase them. This early cottage industry led to the birth of the carpet industry and thus Dalton Georgia became the "Carpet Capital of the World".
Each of the instrumentalists in the group are employed by the "mill companies" in Dalton, Georgia and thus a nod to our Peacock Alley heritage.
Kaytlyn Reese Bohannon (Vocals)
Kaytlyn studied voice at Coventry University in Coventry, England and has performed solo and with various ensembles. While classically trained, Jazz is her real passion! Kaytlyn also shares her joy of music with her students at Dug Gap Elementary School.
Frank Giammarella (Piano)
Frank came to Dalton, Ga after living in New Jersey for most of his life. He became interested in music when he was young. Frank started taking piano lessons as a child; he also stopped taking piano lessons as a child! When he was a teenager, Frank talked his parents into buying him an electric organ and speaker, so he could join a rock band. Later, after hearing some jazz recordings, he discovered he liked that style more than rock, and that turned his focus onto playing jazz piano and learning jazz culture. Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, and Barry Harris are a few pianists who have influenced him.
Ken Hamilton (Percussion)
Ken began playing drums at age 9. He's always loved jazz, especially bebop, and is influenced by the drumming of Philly Joe Jones, Kenny Clarke.
Paul Byrum (Bass)
A veteran bass player within many styles of music, Paul fell in love with Jazz, Blues and Big Band music during high school and college. His earliest Jazz influences include Woody Herman, Billie Holiday and Weather Report.
We perform many Jazz Standards, classics and tunes from The Great American Song Book.
