De Lacy Davis is a graduate of the Performing Arts High School, Newark, New Jersey. He is an accomplished percussionist, songwriter and producer. His musical credits include performances with Darchele & Ascension Music Co., Mary J. Blige, Leela James, J-Rome, The Atlantic City All-Star Band, CeCe Rogers, Sybil, De’Lacy (UK), Adeva, Blaze, and Third World.
De Lacy Davis began his music career at the age of nine as a self-taught conga player while a student at St. Charles Borromeo School, Newark, New Jersey. He began conga lessons with Ken Sykes, a local percussionist who took an interest in De Lacy. Corky Decina and Mike Ticnus, guitarists and instructors at the Catholic school and church introduced the conga to the musical repertoire which allowed De Lacy to play congas and bongas in the school and church music program. This was a first in the predominantly African-American and Latino congregation.
As a teen, Davis formed a band called Spectrum which featured CeCe Rogers (Atlantic Records), Rico Tyler (Adeva), Rainie Lassiter (D’Lacy, Slip N’ Slide - UK recording artist with hit records ‘Hideaway, That Look) and bassist Baba Karade (Berkeley College of Music). De Lacy, as a self-trained percussionist, became a music major at Newark, New Jersey’s Arts High School, where he was introduced to a range of musical genres including jazz, classical and gospel. He played 2 years in the school’s jazz band under the leadership of famed drummer Otis Brown Jr., father of famed drummer Otis Brown III. The band competed statewide in jazz competitions. He continued as a drummer n the high school’s Gospel Choir.
After college, Spectrum evolved into the house band for CeCe Rogers (Someday, Thick Girlz), ((link hidden)), which performed weekly at Club 88 in East Orange, New Jersey. There, De Lacy’s musical experiences expanded to include performing with Kenny Bobien ("You are my friend"; (link hidden)) , Sybil (Next Plateau Records, “Don’t make me over”, “Walk on by”; (link hidden)), and a host of celebrity house music recording artists.
During the 1990’s De Lacy toured the world with the Motown music group Blaze ((link hidden)(band), Kevin Hedge, Josh Milan and Chris Hurbert, all Newark Natives. His album credits with the group includes performances with the Island Records Reggae group, Third World.
As an East Orange, New Jersey Police Officer ((phone number hidden)6), De Lacy played in New Jersey’s official Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) band.
De Lacy continues to perform with Darchele & Ascension Music Co. He performs frequently with a DJ at private parties, Bar Mitzvahs, celebrations, corporate events, school programs and community/educational presentations.
He currently resides in New Jersey.
