I don't have adequate words to express what a great experience our family had with Pete and saxophonist, Ted Lis. They played one evening for a small gathering of family and friends at the apartment of my elderly parents, who adore music but are unable to get out for it. Pete is TOP NOTCH! He provided ceremony and cocktail hour music for our wedding. He's a talented musician and a helpful vendor - Pete helped us choose our ceremony music and had a lot of great suggestions. He was super flexible too (we ended up changing venues and times, and while a few of our vendors grumbled, Pete was super cool and just sent us a new contract). Pete provided guitar and flute music for our ceremony, and a jazz band for our cocktail hour. My ONLY regret is not having Pete play for the entire reception as well!

Pete performed the music for the ceremony and cocktail hour at our wedding. He was wonderful, flexible and professional! What I really appreciated was that Pete made the planning easy by providing us with his advice on what music we may need, where in the timeline it would be played and how many songs we should pick out. He was so easy to work with and I would recommend him without hesitation.
Pete provided solo guitar for our outdoor wedding ceremony & then duo with guitar and saxophone for our cocktail hour. His music was beautiful and perfect for the vibe we wanted for our wedding day. He is very skilled on guitar and had many music choices (contemporary, classical and jazz). He was Very organized with putting together a song line up and gave us the option to choose any songs we wanted played! He did ask for a tent to be set up for his equipment since it was an outdoor ceremony and was very adamant that he would not play if it started to rain at all. This added a little bit of stress to our day since there was a chance of rain, but in the end it all worked out and the rain held off. I would recommend his services!

Thanks Rose! Yes, it is very important that I protect my expensive custom music instruments/ equipment from getting wet (and protect myself from any potential electrocution). Sorry to hear that you felt some stress about my position based on these concerns. Portable canopies are perfectly fine during light rain as long as the wind doesn't blow the rain sideways into the covered area (as often happens during a thunder storm). Anyway, as you say, it all worked out for the best on your wedding day.

CONTEMPORARY POPULAR MUSIC...
Early on, Pete's interest was in rock and popular music of the 60s, 70s and 80s. He was later drawn towards classical and jazz studies when his musical pursuits intensified in preparation for a career in music. More recently, Pete has revisited his roots by reinterpreting popular and classic rock songs from the 1960’s to the present with an instrumental approach that incorporates the unique and varied skill set that he has acquired.
JAZZ...
Pete has a deep reverence for American Songbook standards and the traditions of jazz — particularly from the 1910s through the 1960s. His entertainingly informative concerts that center on iconic composers such as Jerome Kern, George Gershwin and Harry Warren have been highly praised and very well received by audiences. Smyser had a featured interview in Just Jazz Guitar Magazine. Pete's release of the song Boulevard of Broken Dreams was voted #1 on WRTI’s Top 100 Jazz Countdown. His album titled The Jerome Kern Concert ...LIVE! peaked at #37 of the jazz radio charts nationally and stayed on the top 50 for several weeks. He has commercially released 10 recordings.
Critics have likened Smyser's jazz recordings to legendary guitarists. He is an endorser for American Archtop Guitars, is listed among greats in the book - The Jazz Guitar, Its Evolution, Its Players and Personalities Since 1900 and was on the Artist Roster of the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour (PennPAT). Pete is in the Hall of Fame at Philadelphia’s premier jazz club – Chris’ Jazz Café and was on the jazz music faculty at Moravian College (Bethlehem, PA) for ten years.
CLASSICAL...
Classically trained, Smyser also performs, transcribes and arranges the works of Bach, Handel, Mozart, etc. as well as Latin American guitar classics. He holds high regard for the traditions of Francisco Tárrega, Andres Segovia, etc. and cites them as a major influence in his musical development.
I aim to arrive an hour prior to my musical "start time" in order to set up for an event. I supply all of my own equipment with only the need for an armless chair (two if a duo is hired) and access to a nearby electrical outlet. My required space depends on the size of the ensemble. A space allowance of 5 feet by 7 feet is needed for a solo guitar performance.

I offer my clients a choice of songs from several repertoire lists that are available on my website (or via email as PDFs). These lists contain well over 1000 songs in a variety of styles.
I am willing to learn specially requested songs for an event, but I limit the number of songs that I am willing to learn for any single event to two. There is an additional charge for the time involved. There are some requests that I will decline if I feel that the requested song will not work well with the instrument combination hired. If there are certain “must play” requests for your event, then it is important to discuss them prior to booking.
When I perform any particular song, it will be my own interpretation of the song and not an attempt to sound exactly like a particular artist or rendition.
My influences are varied throughout many genres (classical, rock, jazz, etc.) and too numerous to list. I don't aim to sound like anyone else. I have my own unique approach and musical style.
