I love traveling performing, and doing Steel drum seminars. Educating people about the
steel drum, it’s origin and the evolutionary process of the steel drum. I am at my best whenever
I am Performing with my steel drum. Nowhere in this Wonderful World is to far for me to go in
order to share the sumptuous acoustic sound of the Steel drum.
There is a lot to be said about me, but I’ll try to sum it up like this:
I am a fun, easygoing person. My typical day is being a Musician, working, and running my business. Sure! My spiritual
relationship with God is the Core of my life. Everything I do falls back on that. I enjoy walking in God’s Purpose for
my life. (MUSIC) I love everything about Music! My Company (Peter Zack Bernard E & T Co.) focuses on Musical
performance, Promotions and Artist Management. I’m a High Achiever and always on the Go, but I do make time to enjoy
life, the music I play and compose. I love to be around people who can have a great conversation, laugh, and are
motivated about the Positive side of life. I am constantly striving to make the best out of every situation. We all have our
faults and can always be better at something. However we need people around us, who can lift us up and support the
person who we are or strive to be. "The ultimate of a man is not where he stands in the moments of comfort and
convenience, but where he stands at the times of challenge and controversy."
As a young boy, growing up on the island of Grenada where I was born, I developed an early passion for the steel drum
and the beautiful variety of music that were produce from playing the steel drum. (It is sometimes referred to as the steel
pan.) Though I had some professional musical training in my school, (St, George’s Roman Catholic Boys School) most
of my steel drum playing at that time was by ear. The Steel drum was always my number one passion and instrument. In
my early days growing up, looking at the older guys playing their steel drum and not being able to play pan with them
because of my young age. I decided to form my first Steel drum band at the age of eight I would look for small individual
milk cans, juice cans or any small cans that I could find. I use the same process to make my notes, just like I saw the older
guys doing to make their big steel drums. The only difference was, each of my cans were an individual note. My steel
drum band with collected small cans of different sizes cans to interpret the lead, double second and bass steel drum, was so
loved by the community, so much so that we performed in birthday parties and community functions. I can write a book
about my exiting musical childhood life growing up on the Island of Grenada. My friends and I used to imagine our selves
in America playing music there. That became our dream, because at that time many of the older musician and other people
that we knew, were migrating to America. The land of opportunity as we knew it to be. My opportunity came in March of
1970.
I came to America in the year 1970. Lived seventeen years of my life between New York and New Jersey. At which time I studied music and worked on different jobs to support myself. I attended the Jazz Mobil School of music in Manhattan, New York for three years. While attending another school studying Electrical Engineering. In my three years at the Jazz Mobil School of music, I studied percussion in general and learned to master the Vibraphone. In those days I did not have the slightest idea where to find a steel drum, so I focused on playing the Vibes and other percussion instruments. I began performing with my first band in 1974 playing the Vibes. I then formed my own group in 1981 in Brooklyn, NY until I moved to Florida with the Reggae / Jazz band “Spice Roots” in 1985. Before moving to Florida, we performed on stage with the world famous “Third World” group in the city of Nor fox, Virginia, as their opening act. We also performed as a back up band for a few International Reggae artists like The Mighty Diamonds, Sister Carroll, I Roy etc. Around New York and the try state area.
Florida became my home based and still is. After being there approximately one year with “Spice Roots,” I left and started another group “Zero Crew.” We were the house band at the famous Clevelander Hotel on South Beach in Miami for ten years; we were also the house band in that same ten years period, at the Hungry Sailor club in Coconut Grove, Miami. My musical career in Florida opened many doors of opportunity for me such as, performing at major events, meeting many interested people who were instrumental in things like recording our first record “Mr. Preacher man” Recorded at the Inner Circle studio. Who wrote hits like “Bad Boys Bad Boys” and “Sweet” We acted a small part in the movie “Moon over Miami” and performed another original song that I wrote call “I Rock.” We traveled to different States in America doing live performances. It also was quit a joyful experience to here our songs played on the radio or to see our selves in a movie. While Playing with my group, I was also arranging music for Steel drum bands. I started arranging in 1996 for the steel drum band “Rising Star.” Down through the years I have arranged steel drum music for steel drum bands like “Miami Pan Symphony” “Sacosa” and “Tambour Bamboo Steel Orchestra.” In 1995 I toured Holland Europe for one month performing, doing radio and TV shows promoting the CD: “Little Reggae Music.” On my returned to the United States, I began to focus more on the Steel drum as my main instrument of performance. I did shows from Canada to California to South America, The Grenada Jazz Festival; I did a commercial for Fox Sports TV playing their Super Bowl team song on my steel drum for the 1999 Super Bowl competition at the Dolphins stadium. I won the Miami, West Palm and Tampa Steel drum Panorama competition in 2005, as the best arrangement and performance in their yearly Carnival and steel drum Festival. Although I perform at many different national and international venues, whenever I am in Florida, you are always welcome to check out my local steel drum performance At Bahama Breeze Pembroke Pines, or Muddy Waters Deerfield Beach,
Open for Third World Band, Ziggy Marley, Burning Spear, just to mention a few. , I began to focus more on playing the Steel drum as my main instrument of performance. I did shows from Canada to California to South America. Recently (2009) I toured to many cities in Italy including the Island of Sardinia. I performed at The Grenada Jazz Festival, I also did a commercial for Fox Sports TV playing their Super Bowl team song on my steel drum for the 1999 Super Bowl competition at the Miami Dolphins stadium. In 2005 I won the Miami, West Palm Beach and Tampa Steel drum Panorama competition, as the best arrangement and performance in their Annual Carnival and steel drum Festival.
